Coping with PMR

Absolutely new, 77 on the outside but younger on the inside. Would appreciate any advice relating to PMR please, just any tips that you found helped you.

Have any of you found that your hips or spine have been painful due to this condition?

Had open heart surgery last Summer, and now my ribs and upper spine are very painful. Has anyone else found that these issues relate to PMR please?

I suggest you start by reading the links in the FAQs post. Then sort out some specific questions that you find unclear after that. At present you are being too general - and you are likely to find a lot of the info you will get in the FAQs which is why it has been compiled.

Hi, and welcome,

Maybe have a look through this for general info

Hips are certainly part of PMR, but spine as such isn’t usually…….

ribs could be costochondritis, which sometimes affects PMR patients….might be worth typing ‘costochondritis’ into search box - top right of screen

Hi Jodi365 and welcome. I was diagnosed may 2019 and there's so much I could tell you! Over the past few years, this site has taught me so many things, and the knowledge gained has made me far more able to manage my PMR more effectively. Unfortunately, if I were to share all this information, I'd still be writing it in 2022! 😄

PMRpro is correct in advising you to look at the FAQ's section, where you'll gain a reliable and accurate overview of various situations that might occur and how to possibly deal with them.

In the regular posts you'll read about many different problems and concerns from the various members who request advice and help but you must remember that as alarming as some of them may sound, we're all individuals on our own individual journeys. No two people will have the same issues and you certainly won't experience everything that you read on here. Because of this, it's best to see how you get on and as and when problems arise, post your query or concern. Most of what you'll experience will have been experienced by others before and so there'll usually always be some trustworthy advice available.

I hope this has helped a bit......just try not to worry, don't rush the steroid tapering and rest when you need to.

I can say that I have had a lot of pain in my spine area with PMR, especially towards the top at the shoulder and neck level. I did have some instances of terrible pain in my ribs at the front to the point that I got checked to make sure I was not having a heart problem due to where the pain was.

Now that the PMR symptoms have mainly gone, I now have vasculitis and do suffer pain in the middle part of my back.

Just one little tip for PMR: if your hips are stiff, it's easier to get into and out of a rocking chair!
