I started on steroids for PMR in March on 15 mg now down to 9mg no problems with pain, but I have noticed I am making lots of mistakes, like sending text messages to the wrong person, ordering things on line without checking for mistakes thereby I now have two of the same item being sent to me when I thought I ordered one.

I am not checking things as I used to, I was always very thorough,Is it the PMR or the steroids causing the problems?

Commonly known as brain fog…combination of the illness (well known in most autoimmune diseases) and the medication.

Yes - one or the other - or both!!!!

Me too, my mind drifts, concentration isn’t good & I don’t retain what people say to me. Hope it goes when the pmr finally settles.

I also had this problem.

We should be provided with an alert for others to read..."This person has brain fog due to a medical condition. Please make allowances, curb your impatience and be kind."😀

before I was diagnosed I had been struggling with so many things going wrong I just accepted this problem of " brain fog" as possibly a sign of early dementia. It's not thankfully and at least there's a reason for it which can be adjusted to. It's not always there so there's hope.

I found that cutting out carbohydrates and all sugar helps enormously with memory muddle. If you add to that a decent vit B12 supplement and a daily tablespoon of organic hemp oil for the correct balance of omega 3 and 6 into the mix, then it's even better.

~Do all that, but still "brain fog" most days ~

Yes this is ringing a bell Gardenbay. Do you think it will be counted as mitigation when I go bankrupt?

There is lots here already that confirms 'brain fog'; I cannot disagree. My journey on steroids for GCA (since early 2017) has been erratic, in every sense. I thought that it was because I lost my job in summer 2018 (or even why I lost it!), but increasing forgetfulness has been a major bugbear. It started with not finding the right word in a sentence, and now has become an issue for train of thought and concentration. Am only just in 60s so not overly keen that this continues and am trying all the memory games recommended to keep dementia at bay (though haven't started learning a language yet). Family fed up with me for the frustration this gives me :-( More irritating still is prospect of this continuing and my inability to be in control as I used to. I sympathise and can only hope and pray that if I ever get to a point of 'minimal' or even no steroids, than 'brain fog' might recede. You have my sympathy, but not sure that I can be of any other help.

I believe it’s more prednisone than PMR, and here’s why: I have weaned down to zero three times, obviously flaring the first two times. I’m now steroid free again, this time for 6 weeks, which is better than before. Each time I’ve made it off prednisone, my fog has cleared noticeably with such things as remembering names, word searching, trivia, etc. At first I thought I was imaging it, but it’s been true all three times. So hang in there and have faith that your memory isn’t gone, it’s just a bit muddled by the drug.

Oh gosh..I am having a flare at the moment and I’m noticibly slow, more forgetful, clumsy, and trip up with alarming regularity !I don’t seem to pick my feet up to clear objects in fields, even small twigs 🤣 we have a small holding so spend a lot of time walking round fields!

Yes, I am one more with brain fog, now at 3/4 mgs and still can;t bring up the correct word. At least I don;t send my dr the same study more than once anymore.
