Well, I'm a week into my Cornish break and after an unexpected and potentially 'health-damaging' start to the holiday I made sure I rested & took it easy, and today I managed a full day out with my son and his girlfriend (of 15yrs!) visiting Port Isaac where (for those of us in the UK)) Doc Martin is filmed. Here I am outside the Docs' home in the series... unfortunately I didn't get to meet Martin Clunes but I was happy to settle for being well enough and able enough to enjoy a day out with the people I love.
So pleased I didn't 'push' myself to do things before I felt ready....it payed it's rewards......and my son bought us all a lottery scratch card and I won £2! Haha! Bingo!

I know this annoys us, but you do look fabulous. You are giving me the courage for my little holiday in County Cork, by boat and carefully planned with rests every step of the way. I am the women who used to swan off to Australia without a worry.
Hahaha! Thankyou. I do actually feel so good today but know it could all change very quickly if I'm not careful. You're one of the experts on advising us all on PMR/GCA so I know you'll be ok. Have faith in the process you've taught me!
I know you must be subject to the same challenges as all of us. All I can say is that your advice definitely helps and frequently works so I wish you all good things for your holiday in county cork and a happy and stress free time.
Oh dear...I'm afraid I kind of find it relaxing Sunday night TV...mainly because my brain doesn't have to engage!! Haha 😄 We'll have to agree to disagree on that one!!
Fantastic relaxing viewing. Martin Clunes is brilliant in the role. Love Port Isaac but very steep to get around with pmr and weak muscles!! Never rains in Doc Martin and sea always blue. Very uplifting. Enjoy 👍👏
Yes...some very steep bits. I did the hill up to the house in 3 very slow stages and stopped for a cuppa in the Chapel Galleries en route. Tintagel was worse though, but thankfully you could be 'land-rovered' back up to the tops if you walked down to the cliff or merlins cave. I'm ok on the flat and downhill if I can rest regularly.
We also stopped for homemade hot X buns there but I never made it to Doc Martin's house. Maybe next time when gluts are stronger through exercises! I live in hope!
So pleased to know your holiday is working out well. Cornwall is one of the most beautiful Counties: all that green and pretty country lanes and those open skies (won't mention the pasties- can you buy one with £2?) are good for the soul.We have holidayed in Port Isaac mostly when our boys were small and also with our grandchildren. I love the Doc Martin series for the familiar scenery.

Only slightly. I’m fortunate to have lots of joy in my life- lovely sons (3)and daughters- in -law, 3 super-duper funny, caring grandsons, husband who is a great support, comfortable home, friends. I love being in the outdoors and count my blessings. When I go to bed I always try to think happy thoughts before I go to sleep….. 💤😀 When PMR goes into remission I’ll have the whole package- winning the lottery would complete it but I’ve never ever bought a ticket!
You're making me very jealous, I'm waiting for an operation and have been told not to go anywhere in case I catch Covid. But am very glad to hear you are having fun! Take care on your journey, but enjoy every moment!
Thankyou. I will definitely take care. Like I said to 123-go.... it's not what you're doing that's important...it's whatever it is that brings you a moment of relief, joy, hope or happiness. That could be a holiday in Cornwall or a successful medical procedure. All are events worthy of bringing about a smile and there's not one activity, 'happening' or event that is more significant than another.😃 The feeling it gives you is the important factor.

Hahaha 😂...well as a Yorkshire girl I probably have a nose for sniffing out a bargain!! They were actually nearer to your price in Port Isaac but cheaper in Looe. I wouldn't normally eat them....too many carbs with all that pastry, potato, swede etc.....but 'when in Rome'!.....😄. I'm also going to throw caution to the wind and have a Cornish cream tea before I come home!!🙄
We holidayed in Looe last month. Had a great time with my daughter, son in law and 2 grandchildren. Yes I had a pasty too. As you say 'when in Rome' 😊 Glad you are having a lovely time.
Well done on the way you are dealing with your holiday. We went to Scotland in June for a couple of weeks and I am fortunate that my husband understands and will stop on the journey for me to have a walk about. He also understands that if I say I need a rest then we have a quiet day. Enjoy the rest of your holiday

So glad you are enjoying a well deserved holiday. We had 2 weeks near Padstow in June, love Cornwall , after Yorkshire it’s my happy place! I too have learned the art of pacing 👍, my hubby understands it too now. Love Doc Martin , hopefully there will be more to come xx
I love Yorkshire too......but then I am a Yorkshire lass! My husband is from Richmond in North Yorkshire. It's so pretty up there but unfortunately the weather isn't always so good! It's a lovely place to relax though and definitely another one of those places that seems to help ease the stresses and anxieties often caused by our condition. Certainly helps improve my mental health.
Sounds perfect. I love Skipton and spent lots of time there over the years. Is Ye Olde Celebrated Pork Pie Shop still there?? I can still feel the warm jelly dribbling down my chin as you bit into the crispy pastry. Yummy 😋
Lovely post and happy hols. I live 1000ft up the Pennines 12 miles from Richmond with an uninterrupted view up the Greta Valley to the coast with the north York Moor edge visible. It's better than pretty Kendrew and the weather is better than down south believe me.
That sounds amazing. I'm a bit confused though as Richmond is in Swaledale near Northallerton? It's about 40mls from the pennines. My geography is appalling though so I've probably got very confused??
We are the other side of the moor from Swaledale near Bowes and it's a nice cycle ride over the Stang into Reeth. From there to Richmond isn't too far...but was wrong in miles...probably nearer 30.
Love that valley. One of my routes was from Mickleton to Brough and down the east side into Kirby Stephen and Sedburgh and back west side M6 to Brough. Love the Pink Sandstone.
Not sure my son would agree about weather…he lived in Peak District for about 15years, probably about same altitude as you, and he always said the outside temperature gauge in the car rose about 5 degrees when he got to Dorset.
I'm temperature adjusted now. You are right but with global warming we'll be in a tolerable range compared to the south. That's another reason why I'm up here and with my own spring fed pure water supply not piped from some foreign owned water supplier.
Even though I’m in Dorset, and only 9 miles inland, don’t think I’ll live long enough to disappear under the English Channel or be in Mediterranean temperatures…so I’ll risk it!
But your place sounds lovely……maybe not so much in winter though…for a soft southerner like me!
love the winters, can get cut off until snow plough comes through but all part of the fun. Pure snow and uninterrupted vistas as far as the eye can see does it for me.
I know that, I come from a "farming" environment, but doesn't mean I have to like the cold winter version!
just as an aside when hubby was in the military we spent 2 years in the Outer Hebrides, now there they know about wind and rain....would have scarred me for life (if I hadn't been a Viking )🙄
Is this another adjustment I'm going to have to accommodate PMR pro? does it never end. I'll admit 70mph winds with rain for 3 days continuous was a bit harsh and it did collapse a 2 storey stone barn in on of our fields to rubble but I enjoy the drama. By the way I love Cornwall and seriously thought of a life there Lizard Peninsula. Tried to buy a NT property on coast near Treskillin Gardens many moons ago where freshwater stream ran into sea at the beach. Beautiful.
Well we are certainly seeing rather different weather here but what has been interesting was a 30 year hiatus in weather patterns stemming from the Med (Genua low pressures we call them) which made it drier in winter so less snow. The last couple of years have returned to more like previously except we rarely get the desperate cold over late December/early January of the past when -25C wasn't uncommon.
-25 is cold . Not that bad here. We too have noticed drier winters but wetter february then unnaturally dry spring. Seriously affects our expected grass growth. Up here in Teesdale we have the largest span of natural (not enhanced) grassland in europe.
yes. I think every area tries to up its importance and stats are adjusted to suit the mindset but there is a lot of continuous natural grass. Nothing Like the Steppes though with the Mongol hordes raging😀
True..having been married to a true countryman for 46 years (good number of years as a single handed gamekeeper/water bailiff who needed a extra pair of hands at times) and a farming SIL know where you are coming from.
All this chat about Cornwall (I live here) & Yorkshire (I’m from East Yorkshire) have really made me smile this morning. A fun thing to wake up to. Sorry the weather hasn’t been the best Kendrew! We spent an anniversary weekend in the Old School House years ago, pre Doc Martin & when we revisited about 4 years ago we got such a shock it was teeming with “folk” looking for Doc’s house etc. The walks around there are fabulous though if a little challenging! Love North Cornwall especially out of season am very lucky to live here. Take care xx

I have been remiss in not responding to your last note. After 7 diagnoses, I realized my doctor has no idea what is causing my inflammation.
Funny thing, once I got entirely off the Prednisone (12 days ago), the pain dissolved! Still dealing with osteoarthritis in the SI joint but going for an injection in two days to try to deal with that.

Well done! Great news! You deserve it...& you are always helping folk on this forum, too. Sadly ours didn’t go so well, as we had dreadful rain for ten days, which meant driving the car round the Devon lanes sightseeing in the rain...soggy Exmoor ponies etc! We did have two lovely days after that & we relaxed on the beach, & I went swimming with the surfers in the big waves! We didn’t go in any shops, though or eat out & I spent weeks cooking meals & freezing then before we went....so was cream crackered when we started...plus I drove the motorhome (with David following, driving the car behind), those tiny lanes aren’t designed or should be used, by motorhomes.( I think). Keep on having fun! I’m preparing for the next one! S x
Hi there. Well although we've had some sunshine, there's also been a lot of rain but managed to avoid any deluges! Such a shame your weather wasn't better. Well done on the sea-swimming! I'm not that brave I'm afraid! All that driving too!... I'm stressed enough with hubby negotiating the narrowest lanes ever, and we're not in a motor home!! I'd need so much cortisol I'd probably be in constant adrenal distress!I don't know about you, but the sun shining always makes me feel much better and seems to make all my symptoms far less evident. I hope you have less work, less driving stress and much better weather on your next trip.

I love swimming & don’t get many chances due to allergy to chlorine! Oh, we took our car, too, david followed me...I wouldn’t take a motorhome to the south west, the road structure just isn’t suitable! S x
