I have been on prednisolone for almost 2 years now, for PMR,starting on 10mg and now down to 7mg. Last Sunday, I went to hospital after feeling unwell for a couple of days with shortness of breath, a slight cough and a sharp pain in my chest (thought it was a pulled muscle), that even stopped me laying comfortably in bed, I also had a severe headache on the Saturday. In hospital, as soon as I mentioned the symptoms I had they whisked me off into a cubicle (where I stayed for next 7 hours). I had covid tests, first was negative, second was positive, blood tests, chest x ray and then CT scan. The conclusion by the end of the day was covid, lung infection, and multiple blood clots, I am now on anticoagulants, and had antibiotics. There were no obvious risk factors /reasons for this to happen, other than I am overweight and take prednisolone long term, I can't help thinking my blood clots are as a result of this. Has anyone taking pred had a similar experience?

prednisolone and blood clots in lung
I would think the blood clots are far more likely due to COVID. Hope you feel better soon.
Covid is known to lead to abnormal clotting as well as pneumonia.
Get well soon!
Hi, My husband got blood clots on his lung, it was really frightening, he’s been on pred for several years and now has to take serious blood thinners.
Take care.
Xx
Ps, this was way before covid arrived, doctors said it was being on pred.
They are a rare side effect of the Astra Zeneca. Did you have those jabs? What an ordeal! Get well soon. Glad they caught it.
yes I did have those jabs, the second being June 17th so about 6 weeks before diagnosis, so not sure if there's a link there. Thank you for your reply
Hi, I’ve been on Prednisolone since November 2019, and seemed to have very side effect under the Sun, but fortunately not blood clots! So sorry to hear you’re suffering, and wishing you all the best for a full recovery. I’m sure there are many good people on this site who can help you in a positive way.
Take care.
