Stop nausea : Hi , well I started methotrexate... - PMRGCAuk
Stop nausea

Tell your doctor and suggest you stop taking it. It is not imperative for PMR. I have never taken it.
It simply doesn’t work for some folks. I think Mrs Nails had some success with it and put an article in FAQs.Some instinct told me it wasn’t for me. My Pred nausea can be settled with food, just like pregnancy.
I divided the methotrexate dose to spread over 36 hours and my symptoms were greatly lessened. I changed doctors and asked to change to injections. I have tolerated injecting now for 5 months and yesterday started tapering again...fingers crossed!
Hi, the nausea can be awful, ring your Rheumy Nurse & they may suggest a simple emetic (anti sickness tablet) or you can have it by injection to by pass your digestive system….
I wasn’t nauseous at first but suddenly developed it, are you taking Folic Acid & at what dose, how many days per week?
If you look in FAQ you’ll find My Story & hopefully Tips & Hints on taking MTX (l need to double check that one is there)
Kind Regards

Hi , I just started Tuesday night 3 and Wednesday night 3 and folic acid is on Sunday I feel so sick with it , does the sickness go the days you are not taking it ?
It should do, l had a month of it where l could only eat fairly plain food & it went as quickly as it came…..
More Folic Acid helps that’s why l suggest you ring the help line, l take 5mg Folic Acid the six non MTX Days.
I always took mine after my lunch & in one dose but am now in Injections, which they will prescribe if you don’t get over the nausea.
Good Luck 🍀
Hi, I take methotrexate once a week 10MG and folic acid everyday. No stomach problems.
The rheumatologist has just called me I have to drop down to 10 and take folic acid now so hopefully that helps 🤞
Were you not automatically given folic acid? Very poor ...
How often does he recommend the Folic Acid now & is it 5mg? Are you still going to split your MTX Dose? I always found it best to take after my lunch, usually something plain but it was ‘smells’ that triggered my nausea…
What Dose of Prednisolone are you on?
Kind Regards
MrsN

Nausea was the one thing I didn't suffer with mtx, also taking half before bed and the rest next morning which my rheumy said seemed to work for most people. My problem was the fatigue that grew week on week, joint and muscle pain, insatiable appetite (I gained a kilo in a month and have struggled to lose it again) and other effects usually claimed to be due to pred but which mtx can increase. It didn't matter how much folic acid I took - some people do need lots and it does help most.
I think it is worth trying - but since there is no guarantee it will help and it has its own adverse effects I am adamant that if it makes you feel worse than pred alone - then it isn't for you.
I definitely don’t want to feel worse or add more side affects with the prednisolone, she told me to split it both nights , I will give it a few weeks but if I keep feeling like this then I will need to stop . Thanks so much x
I refused steroid sparing agents. I added up the 83 pred side effects and the 16 for Metho and then thought why do I want to add a steroid sparing agent to the mix - my body had enough to cope with, so I stuck with pred.
If TCZ had been around then - who knows what I would have done.
I don't say you should do what I did, just make your own mind up once you know the facts.
I would love to know the time difference for PMR to go into remission, with Metho and without.
Think Sarah is attempting to get funding for a study "to answer the question once and for all" as Max Yates or Christian Dejaco said at a zoom meeting
I suck 'queasey drops, they are for nausea in chemo patients, they do help, get them on line xx
