Nausea

Has anyone experienced short periods( approx 30 seconds) of nausea or a short period of vomiting while tapering on prednisone? I have tapered to 5mg and not on sparing drugs. I have had the nausea for the last few weeks maybe 2 or 3 times a day and a first bout of vomiting on waking a few days ago. No other problems except a bit of muscle stiffness

Definitely had queasiness as part of my symptoms. No vomiting except for the undiagnosed beginning when I was really quite ill and even vomited on a long haul flight. Talk to your doctor if you are worried. I don’t think mine was so sustained.

Thanks Jane. I plan to speak to Dr tomorrow

It can be a symptom of adrenal insufficiency - and you are in the right range of pred dose for that to be a possibility. Speak to the GP about it.

I thought that could be the case

I suffered from nausea and lethargy when reducing from 6 to 5.5mg which I attributed to adrenal insufficiency. It was a feeling which lasted all morning and into the afternoon but I was never actually sick. Checking your history I see you have had nausea on and off for a while. As others have advised, maybe discuss with your GP.

Nausea was a feature of my adrenal insufficiency but yours sounds a bit more next level and may mean you’ve either got an insufficiency level the doctor needs to know about or it’s some else that also needs some investigation.

Fortunately I see the rheumy on Thursday after 3 months and will chat to GP tomorrow hopefully. Thanks for your reply

It could be an upset stomach from something else. We do tend to blame pred for everything. I know I am one of the blamers!

I know what you mean. Pred is the cause of all my woes too!

If I could blame all my woes on pred I'd be a happy bunny! It is the least of my problems ...

Yes I get it occasionally but not sustained. Maybe you need to consult your GP if it doesn’t get any better. X💐

I find that it happens less often when I do split dosing with a tiny pm dose of prednisone.

Oh well now there's an idea. I've never tried splitting the dose. Thanks I'll try

A tiny pm dose is usually sufficient. Maybe 1-2 mg at 1 pm.

Ok interestingly enough I have had no nausea since I decided to sit at 5mg for a while. It seems to happen during the taper even though it is only 0.5mg
