What SORT of shin pain? Knee pain isn't unusual in PMR - whatever a lot of doctors seem to believe.
I have lower leg pain. I think it is a side effect of the steroids causing fluid retention and thin skin and neuropathy in my case.
RHR76 I have Medial Tibial Pain (Stress Syndrome) - the Medics call it ‘Shin Splints’ usually it ‘a Athletes & Runners so l’m the exception to prove the rule!
They sent me for a Shin X-ray in case it was a hair line fracture or worse! Sometimes it’s OK but other times really painful 😖 my knees were already damaged by the Chemo so they are often painful anyway but worse on hard/marble or concrete steps when walking down!…
This hit a nerve (pun intended). After starting Pred in March I’ve started to get that shin splint feeling. I also have neuropathy but that was chemo induced and hasn’t been like this. It comes and goes. My neurologist didn’t have an answer , just “keep an eye on it, let me know if it gets worse”. My rheumy didn’t say anything when I mentioned it. Mostly I ignore it.
Yes but I had GCA right down to my feet but not in my temporals. At its worse, I could barely walk across the horses' field. After a few days of 40mg preds the pain had gone. Horses can get sore shins too if they are not fittened carefully. Crazing on the surface of the shin bones.
I don't have pain but a constant ache in my left shin .sometimes I don't know where to put my leg to try and ease it.
Yes. A throbbing pain.
I have a pain behind and slightly below my right knee. It goes down my leg too. Doctor said it was my fibula and to use a gel e.g. ibroprufin. It has worked for me.
Ive been experiencing pain in the same place for several months. The area below my left knee looks slightly swollen. It only hurts when I walk. Pain almost seems behind the knee area. Im considering seeing an orthpedist. I did fall on that leg twice over winter but it was perfectly fine then .I also walked 3 miles a day but cant do that anymore.
Used to get shin pain at night when I wanted to be going to sleep. This was one of the apparently unrelated symptoms which disappeared when I discovered I probably had a sodium deficiency and starting consuming more salt.
My first symptoms of PMR were knee and shin pain right first then the left
I suffered really bad shin pain in both legs so I would say yes definitely a symptom
Yes I have knee pain and swelling for a couple of weeks now ..have been tolerating it even though it is difficult to walk and to get up and down stairs comfortably so I’ve gave in and started taking strong painkillers ( co-codamol) which eases it a bit...my pred had been upped to 40 mgs end of April 2021 as being treated for GCA but knee and shin pain started when on lower dose of 20 so don’t know if pain related to Pred or something else…am keeping an eye on it for now..
