Or to be more precise - I am swollen between the knuckles on hand and feet, and below the joint on the outside of my ankle. The RM said that is water - looks like big blobs. They are still looking for an alternative diagnosis to PMR - no luck yet though

Do any of you suffer from swollen joint?

Hello krillemy,
I have just increased my Pred from 10mg and I’m now taking taking 12.5mg of Pred. I have swelling below the ankle joint in exactly the same place as you describe. It doesn’t hurt but I don’t like the way it looks. (I don’t have swelling in knuckles).
I saw my rheumatologist last Wednesday and she said it was a likely side effect of steroids. On 10mg the swelling reduced and has increased since I have I began taking 12.5mg. I will be interested to hear other views.
When you say swelling, do you mean puffy, non-painful bits? The areas you describe are common places for excess fluid to collect. Pred can certainly cause fluid retention especially if you take salt in the diet because Pred causes you to retain sodium (salt). If they improve over night after being in bed, it is likely this sort of fluid collection. Or it might be RS3PE which makes fluid swell the backs of hands and feet. Are you on any Pred?
Hi krillemy.
I have PMR, down to 1.5 mg /day pred. My feet and ankles were swelling, similar to the way you described. It was swollen on the outside under the bone and around the bone on the inside too, which together made an odd shape! I had some other problems too - fatigue and wheezing. I was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation.
Hope you get it sorted soon.
Hi , I went for my app with the musculoskeletal team a month ago, she pointed out the fluid lumps in my hands , and feet etc, she told me it was arthritis, I have carpel tunnel in my fingers , and very sore ankles, it gets you down !
And krillemy This prompted a little googling on my part as the only one of my many arthritic joints that has ever become swollen is the knee I injured, after I injured it.
Good morning Krillemy, I have swollen joints on my right foot. The joints from my big toe through to the third toe across are markedly swollen and I now have very little mobility in the big toe. I have fused bones/joints in my left foot where the joints had become so bad. None of these are PMR related but part of my OA. I am sure though that I have CTS which is getting worse, which probably is/may well be from my PMR
