says on the packet each tablet contains 1500mg calcium carbonate (=600mg calcium)
and 400 I.U. cholecalciferol (=10 mg vitamin D3).
and yet ive noticed some people on here are taking far more than that.
Is this the correct dose? and why would people be taking more? off their own back or on doctors advice?
also im tapering v, v slowly from 15mg of pred, down to 13 so far. is it normal to feel absolutely wiped out and just lay down all day with no energy? (I did have my 2nd covid jab last week, could that be something to do with it?)
i assume you mean the vit D? The calcium is fairly standard and shouldn't be increased. If someone has a particulalry good dietary intake they may not need as much.
It is assumed that we are all out in the sun and making vit D so the amount in the tablets is the RDA - which was set years ago before the current awareness of the ideal levels of vit D as opposed to the values found. In fact, at 65 we make less than 1/4 of what we made at 20 andalso low vit D is commonly found in autoimmune disease. Many of us have had our vit D level checked and know it was very low so had to have it corrected - one differential diagnosis for PMR is vit D deficiency which can cause similar symptoms.
I take 4000 IU because I was very low, and I know that without at least 2000 IU my vit D level just falls steadily. 2000 IU is generally recommended for older patients and more for anyone who isn't out in the sun a lot - you can't get anything like enough from diet. My vit D is checked annually - and it is still not particularly high in the range.
I had awful fatigue after my second Moderna jab - it lasted several weeks.
