I have a problem in that I have to have a hysteroscopy under general anaesthetic the day after tomorrow and it had been arranged that my daughter would stay with me for 24 hours as advised by hospital. She now finds that she can't do this - for reasons I don't fully understand - and that she would stay with me for a few hours and be at the end of the phone if I needed. I'm worried about this as it seems to be a general stipulation that 24 hrs company is needed. Any advice would be welcomed.

General anaesthetic recovery period
Oh dear! You just can’t get the daughters! 🤨. You need to tell the doctors, you may just have to stay overnight like in the old days, perhaps? Good luck Maria, I hope that it turns out just fine. I expect you will be dozing for most of the period following the op.
Is there anyone else you are close to and perhaps could help out. If not SheffieldJane is correct you really do need someone for 24 hours.
Being at the end of a phone isn't much use if you have collapsed is it! You really do need someone for the 24 hours or they wouldn't say it. Does she realise how important it is? Is there anyone else at all?
Agree with others - need overnight cover.. in hospital if all else fails. Have had 3 replacement operations in last 3 years, and even with the spinal not general anesthetic, was told I needed someone with me overnight.
Thanks everyone for your replies. This forum is really like a second family - but without the tensions. I'm now going to stay at my daughter's; she took me for my pre-hospital Covid test this morning and we had a chance to talk about it . It seems she and her partner were having some difficulties connected with his work and she didn't want me to worry - though in fact I probably worried more than if she'd told me.
The hospital does not normally let you home unless you can confirm you have someone to look after you.
