Happy Easter...a year later

Today, our circle of friend/family gathered for the first time since the start of Covid pandemic.

All of us are in our 70's, all have had all our immunization shots. For most of us, we have no other family than this family of choice, and it has been a long year. We patched together our social needs by weekly zoom gatherings. For Christmas holiday, we had an outdoors gathering in one friend's huge garage which was decorated with lights strung around the laundry drier rack, cheerfully decorated with colorful cards and trinkets. Our usual potluck holiday dinner came as individually portioned servings gathered into holiday bags, with Cornish game hens taking the place of our usual festive Turkey. We all kept our distances, masks properly in place, and only lowered the mask to sip a toast. Today, Easter, was the first time we were able to gather, without masks, in one place. We laughed, hugged, and toasted the new grand baby most of us were seeing the first time since his birth, a year ago.

So, long story short, although we still are careful to wear masks and maintain social distances when we are in public places, we can now gather in small groups with friends who have been vaccinated.

I hope others are seeing light at the end of the tunnel, as we are.

Kind regards, Jerri

I too met up with my son for the first time in a very long time. My husband and I drove the 2½hrs from Essex to the Cotswolds and had the loveliest day sitting in the warm sunshine in his garden and just savouring every moment of being together again. How I've missed him. We had a few walks... one before lunch and one after, and he cooked us the most delicious meal. Times like this are so special. They lift our spirits and lighten the burdens we carry, making worries and anxieties pale into the background. When we're experiencing long term health issues, it's so important to embrace these moments and know how blessed we are to have them.

Your lovely day sounds wonderful and leaves you with cherished memories. We didn't see anyone in the flesh but were 'zoomed' to Spain where we chatted for an hour and a half with son and daughter-in-law. What a lovely surprise we had when our grandson and his partner joined in from Denmark! Later in the afternoon our son in Northern Ireland video-called us on WhatsApp. All that travelling in one day through the marvel that is social media.
