Missing a dose of prednisone
When I had an op recently I just took my pred 12 hours before, so I knew I would be OK. I figured too much was better than too little as far as I was concerned.
I did that too. I had a four hour ankle fusion and didn't tell anyone about popping the pred. Bad boy
My inclination would be the same as Piglets but your own surgery team maybe able to suggest a solution. Ask them in good time. You maybe able to have Pred intravenously.
If it is a colonoscopy or any other -oscopy the taking of medications is almost always allowed - do check with the medical team. The alternative is to do what the others have sugggested - take it the night before, even if it is early.
Hello, I had an op 2 weeks ago, as part of the pre op the team said take the pred before 6am on the day of the op. The anaesthetist doubled my dose for the next day and then reverted. back to my daily dose the subsequent days. Good luck.
As a general rule any necessary Meds are still taken with a small amount of water, NOT taking your Pred before a Procedure is not in your best interests but l’d ring & ask first, you need the answer from a Medic. I’ve had several procedures while l’ve been on Pred from Major Surgery to a Colonoscopy & have always taken my Pred at the usual time......
Following a discussion with the physician and anesthesia dep't I suspect there may not be a problem. I am fortunate that I am able to take 7mg of pred with only a very small (VERY) amount of water. Orask your prescribing physician if you could take a larger dosage the
time prior to the one in the AM of procedure. If you were on a larger dosage (20mg or so) the situation might be different. Good Luck
I have learned that physicians are more than happy to help you adjust times for medications should a "routine order" say, nothing by mouth for XXXX hours -----You will be fine.
