OMG it's back

Hello, I had PMR about 5 or 6 years ago and now realise the pain I've been in is a return visit. I didn't know it could come back. I will try and contact my doctor tomorrow but until then can anyone advise me what painkiller works best until I can get the steroid tablets which magically made the pmg and every other pain I had disappear. Thank you .

Sadly, if it is PMR rearing it’s ugly head then pain killers don’t tend to work. It is one way we have of confirming that it is PMR. As you will know only Prednisalone will do the trick. Talk to your doctor as soon as possible. Until then warmth, like a hot water bottle, can be soothing. You could try taking a non steroid anti- inflammatory drug like Ibuprofen.

Thanks I will try ibuprofen. It made me realise what it was when I had pain doing up my bra and getting up in the morning having to raise my legs as high a possible to stand up. That's when it all came back. Take care and thanks . Corinne

Make sure to take Ibuprofen with food. It can cause ulcers. I know having taken it for months before diagnosis.

Thanks, I will be very careful, I didn't realise they could cause. problems.

It does I'm afraid - I have had a few friends over the years where it has come back. They almost all say the second time was totally different from the first. And you know better how to manage it.

Painkillers? Most people say that even NSAIDs don't even touch the pain in PMR. I had it for 5 years without pred, at best they eased the add-on factors but they didn't help with the PMR itself. I found warmth helps the stiffness - stretching in a warm shower made it easier to move. Then I did an aquafit class in a warm pool every morning - luckily a local gym had a really good weekdaytime offer for us oldies! That isn't an option at present though. The steamroom helped too - so a hot shower and stretches maybe the best option.

Thanks , it is a weird time right now and I have so many health problems I was hoping I was wrong about the PMR but I'm not. I will try a warm shower but as my fingers are painful following carpal tunnel surgery it's not easy. Take care and I am grateful to you for your advice. Corinne

That’s a bummer! But PMRpro has given good advice.....hopefully you get through it easily this time, but at least you know what to expect.

If you have a good brandy in the house then a tablespoonful helps. Brandy was developed by Medieval Monks as a Medicine.

PS Some friends know me as the Brandy Queen - kept me going for quite a while.

Unfortunately it goes into remission, but it is still hanging about in the body. I am so sorry it has come back.
