Back/heart spasm and pain

Saw post from Daisy chain and understand how these things can be worrying. Last week I was away on a study break and experienced quite severe pains running from my skull all way down my back. The odd thing is that the pain pulses like my heartbeat. It is excrutiating and I’m bent double until it’s over. Takes about a minute to go away. Usually preceded by walking fast or carrying my case or walking upstairs. I’ve told doctors and rhumys but no one seems to know what it is. Doesn’t happen all the time. Only difference is that I was eating a bit unhealthily as I had to eat what was given. Back home and it seems to have stopped. On new ametryptelene tablet to help me sleep better which is definitely working. 10mg steroids. Omeprasole and adcal. Any ideas?

How bizarre! Did you start the amitryptiline after you got home?

No. Started it before. But also had spasms before taking it.

Was thinking the other way round - if it had helped.

I’m afraid not. In fact I feel woozy on them but no relief from general body discomfort.

I'd discuss not taking them if they aren't helping and making you feel bleugh. I can accept taking something that makes me feel better - but not the other!

I've asked for the doctor to phone and speak to me about the spasms and about the medication. Feel like I'm getting more drowsy as the day goes on.

This could be caused by not eating food that is your normal healthy diet .l have sometimes had a dull pain in between my shoulder blades which can last several days, and l have thought that to be lndigestion, that happens when l have been eating or drinking something l am not used to.lf it has stopped now you are back home it should be nothing to worry about.,l do hope so !

Linda was talking about an Oesophageal spasm that tends to travel down the oesophagus, as if you’ve swallowed a pebble, it can involve kind of referred pain around the jaw area and it is very painful. It can be short lived or go on for some time. I experienced it at the front, I am not sure if it can give you pain down the back. It sounds like something to do with your spine. I wonder if a good physio might be familiar with your type of spasm?
