Blood shot eyes any information please

Truth be know I have not been well really since 2017. Hair loss (alopecia totalise all my hair except my eyes lashes) I'm lucky. Chronic nodular prurigo which I am just recovering from, it causes large itchy sores and since last year I was diagnosed with PMR. Through all this I periodically get blood shot eyes and they are a little sore for a few days and then it goes. I had it checked by the opticians and the GP on several occasions but with no definitive answer. I worried about GCA but realised it didn't fit no jaw pain, headaches or grey spots just annoying and unpleasant. It's really bad today hench the post, is there any body out there who has had this?

It’s common with Pred because the small blood vessels on the surface become fragile. Both the optician and the doc can prescribe drops to help the tear film. I found on Pred I had very dry eyes and needed watery drops for the day and gunky one for night. As the dose dropped, it got better.

It could well be dry eye syndrome - very common in many autoimmune disorders. Artificial tears may help - ask the optician or the pharmacist. I like a liposomal spray which you spray onto closed eyes and it works its way into the eye.

I had this and found it quite alarming! I now use Blephaclean wipes to cleanse the eyes each morning and Thealoz Duo drops to sort out dry eye (and thickensthe tear film for up to 4 hours after using). It’s preservative free but lasts for 3 months. I found the condition got better as Pred dosage lowered - from about 10mgs. Good luck! 🌺

I get red watery eyes, I use Hyco San dry eye drops, available from your optician or pharmacy.Think I need new glasses too, finding reading harder, last tested May 2019, 2 appointments cancelled last year due to lockdown and 1 in Jan 2020 also, optician only doing emergencies.

Wonder how emergency is defined?

Hi, I have GCA and suffer with dry eye syndrome, my eye specialist prescribed Hylo Forte, which my GP continues to prescribe. It’s great and has a long shelf life once opened, whereas most others have to be discarded after 1 month of opening. You can buy this without a prescription if you think it’s worth a try. ❤️
