Vaccination scam

I see many of you getting your vaccinations around about now. I received an 'NHS' email today inviting me for mine. Accepted the invitation, chose my date and then low and behold they wanted credit card details to cover admin booking fee!!! Closed that down pretty sharpish I can tell you. I'm sure you are all savvy, but you may have older more vunerable family members who might easily fall for this. Please beware.

There was something on radio 4 today about people receiving the email. Quite a cunning one. I have had a text this evening purportedly from O2 saying that I am out if Air Time. A friend has had a similar one and she us with EE. It is a scam. The web address is v.o2..... not just o2....

Yes - a friend of mine got caught and they fleeced her of £3k. They are very plausible. Best to say if there’s a problem to put it in writing - or just don’t answer the phone! 😱

My gosh, that is a lot of money to lose, your poor friend.

Her bank covered it in the end thank goodness!

It's clever because you're waiting for it. Worrying that they know who to target - or is it just coincidence?

I think they key into high levels of anxiety. Nasty.

According to the article on Sky News this morning, once someone engages with a scam phone call their contact is sold on to databases. They said there were over 20 such calls a month for many people and too many don't report them because they are embarrased.

I get occasional cold calls here - I just hang up, if it is in Italian I know it wasn't something I needed - I live in a German-speaking area and all official contacts have that registered!

If you click on senders name then you will get full details of who actually sent the email then you can be certain it’s not real and move to spam and also block them.

Yes, the silly thing is I know all this and advise people about it. Just took me unawares because I was half expecting to be contacted. I always know as soon as card details are mentioned it's a scam and report it draught way.

t really does beggar belief. The world is facing it's greatest peace time crisis for a century. The global death rate is astronomical. Dedicated people are risking their lives to help and our scientific communities have pulled off an astonishing feat in producing vaccines so quickly. yet still the pond life see it as nothing more than an opportunity to rob and cheat decent people, those who are suffering. I would not consider myself to be one of the hang 'em, flog 'em brigade but I would happily see these people go to prison for a long time.
