Since there is a post on here regarding Low Carbs I thought I'd check in.
We completed the 12 week plan, I have lost 14kg and am 1 kg from my initial target.
Mark has lost 14.7kg. Both of us really feeling and looking much slimmer.
We've now moved to 5:2, still Med diet but 1600 calories on 5 days.
I thoroughly recommend this diet and The Fast 800 plan format. Lots of support and all meals planned for you! You just have to buy it and cook it.
Once I have reached my target I will reset it as I have many more kg to lose.
I feel much better, fitter (I've been walking several km per day) and am looking forward to dropping down (again) to the next lot of clothes in the wardrobe.
I have a pair of denim jeans in the wardrobe I am looking forward to wearing (comfortably) this summer.
My medal from Race at Your Pace arrived today acknowledging my 78 miles walked in December. I've already waked 82 miles this month, not sure I'll manage many more, the forecast is not too good.
I am sure I have mentioned my Dr took me off my Diabetes Type 2 meds 10 days ago as I am now normal (allegedly)
I am currently walking (virtually) the South West Coast Path which will take me into July (another medal to come). A few friends are also doing the challenge which is nice. Many of the places I have been walking through are familier to me as we lived in North Devon for 5 years.
PMR wise I am still heading down very slowly and so want to speed up but know this would probably be stupid. This week is the start of moving from 7.5mg to 7.
I am sharing the photo taken today of me with my medal. I cannot believe the difference in my face since early October. Had our photos taken then when we picked up our French passports.....I think seeing this was the last straw for me.

Congratulations! Wonderful job! I know you’ve posted this elsewhere, but what is the name of the plan and how do you join up? Is it available in the US?I’ve completely failed diet wise in the last several months after being pretty faithful to low carb and low sugar before.
and the matching books will probably be available from Amazon.
I use the website to get recipes - and haven't had a bad one yet. I particularly liked the bell pepper stuffed with cherry tomatoes, garlic and mozarrella!! Five minutes to make and baked in the over in a dish I could have eaten it out of!!
That's amazing, I'm going to try it. I am now down to 9mg average 10km a day walking each week, do 2 x 1 hour gym sessions weight class, eat very low carb but probably eat too much fruit and am still gaing a half kg a week. Very depressing. Will give this a go but hope I still have the energy to do my exercise which I love being able to do again. Congratulations.
You will have the energy to exercise. There is a lot of info regarding exercise in the program and especially High Intensity which is where the fat burning is.
There is little fruit on the menu, just blue and red fruit with Greek Yogurt for breakfast a couple of times a week. We've restricted ourselves to sharing an apple after our evening meal.
Wow, you must be floating. That's an incredible achievement. Huge congratulations. Just a quick question. If you plan on doing the 5:2 diet, which some friends have had great results from too, how do you manage the pred on those days? In terms of needing to eat something first. Or maybe you are not on pred?
I don't have breakfast so take my Pred with a Baby Bel or a famotidine tablet. I think it is important to take something to protet the stomach rom bleeding, which Pred can do potentially
The 5:2 diet doesn't require you to necessarily miss meals - it is a partial fasting pattern where you eat normally for 5 days with very restricted calories on the other two which are not necessarily on consecutive days.
Time restricted eating may require a shifting of meal times. It is often described as 16:8 - 16 hours of fasting and all food eaten in an 8 hour window although anything from 10:14 up may work for individual people, especially if they have a medical condition.
But 5:2 is based on days/week not hours/day and while the calorie count for a fasting day is only 500 for a woman, you can make 3 meals out of that if you are very careful with choices - even a 50 calorie soup for lunch can be very filling. And it is your choice which meals you focus on.
Funny - I thought it had but I looked it up on their website. Naughty naughty!!! And with 800 calcories in a day that can be 3 hearty meals if you are careful!!!
I hope you can inspire me to try something like that. Currently trying to eat healthy and avoid too many carbs. Weight is just stable but doesn't want to go down. Hopefully dancing will return so exercise will improve. Well done to you.
Oh that’s SO good to hear! I am in week 1 & feeling much better already. I was completely stuck weight wise. The week before I spent a lot of time getting my head around the menus & website. I like the fact I don’t have to think about what we are eating every day as it’s all there, week by week. Must look into the Race at Your Pace.
You've both done a brilliant job, congratulations in keeping this going for 12 weeks. We can only manage this in bursts of 4-6 weeks before we give up and go on the 5:1 diet. I've lost a total of 13 kg and 5 inches off my waist and I think I've reached my optimum weight.
It's so worth it and yes, it's great to not have to think about the what's next to eat. Having said that, we're on a fast day and I have no idea what I will be doing for dinner! Must check.
Congratulations and very well done. I am in week 3 of Second Nature and enjoying the guides and recipes. I am no longer pre-diabetic after following a low carb diet on my own in Oct/Nov. However, my post GCA steroid weight is proving very difficult to shift hence the SN diet and motivational information to help. I'm also managing to walk 10 - 15K every day, but some days I am so sluggish and only able to plod slowly along especially when trying to reduce the dose.
I wish you continued steps to success and a healthy diet and lifestyle.
That’s wonderful. I’ve lost 30 pounds cutting out sugar, and carbs. I am at 10 mg Prednisone and a type 2 diabetic because of being on Prednisone. I have hope now that if I can continue to SLOWLY reduce, I may be able to get off my diabetes meds.
Absolutely brilliant achievement! Very well done to you both.
I have just completed week one of doing 5:2 as don't really feel well enough to start off doing the F800. I'm hoping I might increase fasting days as time goes on.
I bought both the Fast800 book and the recipe book and have to say I have found it quite complicated, and time consuming, to work out what I should and shouldn't eat.
There's lots of foods I'm not able to eat so that ruled out lots of the recipes but I'm sure it will get easier but I think the secret, for me, is in daily/weekly menu planning.
Thank you and I have to say, I couldn't/wouldn't do it from the books. The big thing for me is that someone else is making the calculations and all I have to do is buy the food (we're supplied a weekly shopping list) and follow the recipes.
I have to make some adaptations to allow for food I cannot easily buy here in France.
I’m only on week one of this plan having bought the diet book and the recipe book and like Pipalina I’m finding it a bit of a slog going through it all . I’m assuming that you actually paid £99 to get the 12 week online programme . Do you think it’s been worth all that money ? There doesn’t seem to be much information about what you get for that amount of money , so I suppose you have to buy it to find out , which is a big gamble . Your honest opinion would be appreciated . I’m 75 and that sort of spending on a diet plan would be a big outlay unless I was sure it would work .
Yes I paid and for me it was worth (and is worth) every penny. I am 65.
I would not have achieved the weight loss or the reverting my Diabetes Type 2 without the menu plans, shopping lists and the forums where you can ask questions from the Health Coaches. It is a way of life and my tastes and food desires have change so much in 12 weeks I am not really missing some of the things we would eat regularly.
There are many examples on the forums of success and weight loss which I found inspiring. I also found that the myth's around food were blasted out the the water by research and science. I have tried so many diets over the years and this is the 1st time since the early 90's I have found something so successful.
I was lucky, my daughter signed up several weeks before me so I had an idea of the programme and examples of the food I'd be eating. The £99 worked out for me as I am cooking for 2 of us.
If you go into it in a positive frame of mind and knuckle down it works. I'd hate for you to feel lacklustre about it and feel you've wasted your money.
Thank you so much for your honesty . Perhaps I will give it some more thought if I really can’t manage with the books . I have about 1.5 stone ( 9.5 kg ) to lose . I know it doesn’t sound much but I am only 5ft ( 1.5 m ) tall so every tiny bit of extra weight shows on me . On top of that because of back problems the only exercise I can do is walking at a very moderate speed . I have got to succeed with this diet to make me feel better and hope that some weight loss will help my severe back pain. Anyway , thank you for taking the time to reply to me , it has spurred me on a lot .
Have you considered trying the low carb approach? It also works - and it needn't mean joining anything once you understand the principles of what food to avoid. There are plenty of recipe ideas online if you look. I lost 35lbs doing low carb.
There are lots of us. It is simple, it is cheap - and so if it works, albeit slowly as it was slow for me, then there is nothing lost at all. Once you learn more about food and food groups you can spend a bit of time adapting it to get lower calorie counts - starting maybe with the 5:2 approach where you eat normally but sensibly for 5 days and on 2 days take the effort to carefully count calories to keep to 800 (now, it used to be 500). There are plenty of meal suggestions online with calorie counts, you just need a good scales and keep track of what you put in the meal and you can work out the calorie count - I think piglette has an app that works it out for you.
A 2 egg omelette is under 200 calories, add a big plate of salad leaves or the right veg and that is a meal of under 300 calories. A big bowl of veggie soup can be well under 200 calories, 200 calories left for breakfast and you drink tea/coffee (splash of milk, no sugar) and water all day - it is very manageable for 2 days a week.
Going back to our childhood and eating 3 meals a day and no snacks is a good habit to learn - snacking was introduced by the food industry to add to their profits! And it added to our waists ...
