I am not extremely vulnerable, just vulnerable and we seem to be continuing to work

Yes, l thought we were ‘just vulnerable’ but thought l’d share it for info.

There s quite a lot more in the email so l’ll have a read & share any extra info.

Hope you’re doing OK?

Keep Safe & Well

I work in a primary school with 26 nursery age children and have only been back at work since September after 17months off sick with PMR and steroid related problems. Being back has been the most joyful and therapeutic experience but the extra physical activity has inevitably resulted in me having to increase my steroid dose from what was 2.5mg in sept, to 15mg 10dys ago (just gone down to 12.5mg for a while, before starting a slow taper) My GP has made it very clear that I'm not in a well protected environment (which I have to say I do agree with) and 12.5mg is a very different ball game to 2.5mg (is it actually??) He said I will be immuno-compromised to some degree, and made it very clear I should not be in work for the next 4wks at least.....and probably till my dose is lower. I...like yourself.....am in the vulnerable, but not highly vulnerable category. I'm completely gutted I'm having to be off work again and feel like this is another knock back. I'm usually quite an upbeat, positive person, but I have to admit, this has knocked the stuffing out of me a bit. I know things could be much worse and I have much to feel blessed about, so it'll be ok and I know it's the safe and sensible thing to do. It just that right now it all feels pants!

Not being a Brit I don't know how this works, but is it possible that, due to your change in circumstances, that you could appeal to be put in the highly vulnerable category?

Don't be discouraged, there is light at the end of the tunnel. You have just began the journey and like me, you'd like this journey to end soon but the more you push your body the more your body will do what it wants to do. Don't fight it and don't stress. Stress will cause you more pain. This condition is something we have to adjust to and slow down a bit. PMR will eventually burnout but on its own time. You have no control over it and I think that's the most disturbing. I've had PMR since March 2016 and have finally been able to reduce to 3 mg. Pred but I was overconfident and flared. I had to increase to 3.5mg and in the past I would have been really disappointed but now, I've learned to go with the flow. Also, Covid is another stressor as if having PMR is not stressful enough. Take care and stay safe.
