So I refused pred after last blood test showed PMR markers had dropped to just above normal. Changed HRT , which has been the best thing since sliced bread, got a B12 injection, take vitD& K2 drops & shed 17lb. . Guess what ? My last blood test came back normal !!!! So no PMR, & probably never was ! I am so thankful for this group, without the knowledge I have gained from you all on here I would’ve gone along with GP and taken steroids , & would never have known I didn’t need them !! Spoke to a GP who specialises in menopause who said oestrogen is a natural anti inflammatory & would certainly bring inflammatory markers down ! My own GP was quite snotty that I went against his advice I am now sooooo looking forward to a chat about my latest results 😂 To you all on here , thank you for sharing your knowledge & different journeys & I wish you all the very best for a pain free, pred free future xxxxxxxx

Yes I believe so , not managed to speak to GP yet as I’m on holiday , but my inflammation markers are in normal range . Specialist has told me I have arthritis in feet, awaiting bunion op. But had issues with feet & knees for years. That’s why I didn’t think it was PMR, none of my symptoms came on within a few weeks & I have never had to take pain killers . I think my markers increased with menopause & HRT has brought them down . Plus I have drastically changed my diet .
That’s not good . I’m on the topical gel which is much safer than pills & Utrogestan, which is the nearest to that our bodies produce progesterone wise. I did have to tell my GP what I wanted lol
I think this is v interesting. My PMR came on perimenopause and fluctuated if I had a period.
Oestrogen is anti inflammatory....so is my PMR in part due to reducing oestrogen levels? I have quite a few friends at this stage of life who have developed Other inflammatory diseases...and the fact that more women than men get PMR might suggest sex hormones have a part to play?
Would my PMR respond to HRT instead of steroids? (I think the diagnosis is right with me.)
I am taking HRT for the many health benefits NOT symptoms . Research it , good for your bones , mood , research shows low oestrogen is linked to Alzheimer’s, anti inflammatory, energy levels .... My achey joints started in my 40’s, when I was peri menopausal, but I didn’t know what that was at the time . Google the menopause doctor ... she is brilliant . People are scared of HRT due to cancer scares from research that has been proven to be flawed. Oh & did I mention brain fog ? I feel normal again , I have my memory back & my self esteem. Apparently we should start on HRtT BEFORE Tthe menopause. I have to also say that I changed my diet & im sure this has played a major part too x
No way of knowing - my PMR started a few months after I stopped long term HRT, which I'd been put on for various symptoms including fatigue and sweats, one scare too many. I've often regretted doing so but never tried to negotiate a return, Bit late now probably!
Oh yes! You do have to have a bit of sympathy with doctors and all the systems they have to learn about. But they could get some of the basics better sorted
