Nerve pain?

Hello wise ones et al,

Another day another problem.

First the Osteoporosis diagnoses and now this.

I have just started cycling 6mg / 5.5mg for about a week now - after being on 6 for two months

I was also called back from furlough by my company at the beginning of September - for 3 days a week - although it generally lands up being 4. So lots of computer work.

Just recently I have developed pain in the muscles of my forearms.

I seem to have more inflammation in my stomach too.

More worrying however is the very painful sharp tearing shooting pain under the ball of my foot and my heal - when I flex my foot. Although these areas now constantly feel burny / a bit tender / numb in places.

I thought that it could be a B12 deficiency - as I have been unable to adequately supplement. I used to self inject. Was never diagnosed with Pernicious Anaemia but always felt so much better health wise when I did inject.

At the beginning of last year - after my bout with pneumonia and the onset of Histamine Intolerance I started reacting to the Hydroxycobalamin injections do none of that anymore.

I was advised to post on here by a very smart person on the PA group - suggesting that it could be PMR causing the inflammation in the nerve sheath.

I am taking the non coated version and wonder if I should switch back.

I so desperately want to get off Pred but I have been very cautious and taking it extra slow.

My psoriasis is the past month has also been bad.

Thanks all xxx

For what it’s worth, the forearm pain may well be tendonitis from a sudden increase in keyboard use, especially if it is focused at the top of the forearm at the elbow end. Also, from the way you describe it the foot pain sounds like plantar fasciitis or something foot joint related like Morton’s neuroma that can give a sharp ball of foot pain. Have been suddenly been doing more walking? However, I’m not a doctor and can’t examine your foot. It was at these low doses I became plagued with tendon problems. They slowly resolved, the arms first and finally the Achilles and feet are gradually going. This might help; it is about foot pain causes.

What about getting a blood test for B12 levels to see if there is even a need.

Thanks Snazzy D for the link. Will check that out

I always supplement with B12 and so my blood levels are high although that does not give a true picture of what is going on.

I mentioned it because I thought that stopping the injections meant you were not supplementing at all.

I had exactly the same problem when i went on a lower dose of Pred, awful tendinitis ! The Achilles ! It was agony and took weeks to go. Shooting pains all over my body ! These lower doses are really tricky im afraid to say !

I was intending saying exactly the same as Snazzy - I had forearm pain like that after PMR symptoms appeared, we thought it might be RSI but it was obviously something inflammatory as it lasted until I started pred and them disappeared. My foot pain with PMR was different though - felt like walking on a mixture of sharp pebbles and broken glass!

Oh ok - thanks.

Mine is only the one foot. First noticed it when I stretched over the bed to touch the duvet in on the wall side and it felt like something tearing and burning in my heal. Then it started the same on the ball of my foot when I flexed my big toe upwards. Now the heal constantly feels hot / burny.

Weird. But I also have a slit tendon on the side of my hand

- apparently that can be a result from certain antibiotics and Steroids together.

Oh the joys!!!

Yes, my tendons were initially damaged years ago by repeated courses of a Quinolone type antibiotic

As Snazzy says - quinolone antibiotics. Only took one course at the same time as Medrol for my achilles to succumb!

THANK YOU - THAT IS INTERESTING.

Trouble is, it could be any or all of the above. Sometimes this condition feels like it should come with a bag of magic runes!
