For any who acquired hip bursitis with PMR and have recovered from PMR, did your bursitis also calm down?

Can't say I've recovered from PMR yet, I'm on 3 mg Pred and I feel great. Better than the last 4 years. Yes, with physical therapy and stretches the bursitis is gone in my hips bit I have bursitis in my elbows now. It's not so bad, I can function.

Thanks for your reply. I have tapered to 3.5 mg Pred, and I do think my bursitis is calming down. (Still can’t sleep on that side though). Nice that you’re feeling so great.

I'm down to 1mg pred but now think any twinge must be a flare 🤔. I recently had hip pain thinking bursitis as I've seen a few on here have had it. Started doing exercises I found on you tube....and pain gone. Whether bursitis or not I do not know. But hip fine. Discomfort definitely muscular. Not PMR! Hope you find a solution.

I know how it feels not being able to sleep on the hip that hurts. When I was on a higher Pred dose, both hips hurt so it was hard to sleep since I can't sleep on my back at all. Have you tried physical therapy? In the last 4 years I went to PT 3 times and it really helped!

I had both hip and shoulder bursitis. The hip bursitis was resolved with some physio exercises. The shoulder bursitis required a steroid shot which fixed it. As I understand it, bursitis is a common side effect of PMR as both are related to the inflammation in your body.

Bursitis is PART of PMR.

"The term polymyalgia rheumatica implies a myopathic process, but the muscle in PMR is histopathologically normal. It is in fact the proximal articular and, in particular, the periarticular structures (bursae and tendons) that are mainly affected in PMR, as has been demonstrated by ultrasonography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), and 18F fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) [15-22]. (See 'Imaging' below.)

Imaging findings at the shoulders include subdeltoid/subacromial bursitis and biceps tenosynovitis. Bilateral subdeltoid/subacromial bursitis is an imaging hallmark of PMR; a meta-analysis of four ultrasound (US) studies found this abnormality in 66 percent (95% CI 36-87 percent) of patients [23]. At the hips, PET studies have demonstrated increased uptake of 18F FDG at the greater trochanters and ischial processes, attributed to bursitis, iliopectineal and iliopsoas bursitis, and hamstring tendinitis. MRI and PET CT have shown evidence for interspinous bursitis in the cervical and lumbar spine. Glenohumeral and hip joint effusions are less frequently observed."

Hi yes mine did. Though hip bursitis was one of the first symptoms and certainly the worse it is now gone almost completely. Can still feel it if I push hard on the spot but I couldn't lay on either side before starting steroids.
