PMR following osteoporosis treatment with Aclasta

This is my first post but I have been reading and learning from here for months!

I was diagnosed with atypical PMR in April 2019, a couple of months after symptoms first appeared, which was a few weeks after getting an infusion of Aclasta (zolodronic acid) for osteoporosis .

I have only found 1 research paper that indicates a connection between the IV infusion of bisphosphonates and long term inflammatory effects , but wonder if anyone else knows of such a connection or developed PMR after treatment with zoledronic acid?

Currently down to 5mg from 20, with the requisite flair ups on the way.

Thanks

Interesting - haven't heard that before. Could you give the reference please. It is a pig to look for as all they want to tell you is that PMR is treated with steroids and that means the patient needs bisphosphonates!

Thank you - how very interesting. I think we have had a few in the past with quite bad reactions to bisphosphonate infusions - and of course once you have had it it is there for a long time, you can't just stop taking it!

Thank you and to Gotgoat for that information, I was given AA almost twenty years ago which resulted in a major problem with IBS which I still have but not so bad now. I have recently had a crush fracture of a vertebra and several small vertebral fractures. My rheumy suggested, last January, that I have an infusion instead! Hopefully he will have forgotten all about it by the time I next see him, whenever that may be.

Good luck!

I take a natural bone formula called Osteoprime ultra made by integrative therapeutics.
