34 C and humid.🀨

My body feels as though it weighs 100 kilos (I'm 60 kilos)! We've got this heatwave for at least 12 days and it's only day 4 at the moment .πŸ™ƒ

How do you sufferers in hot countries bare it? Showering in cool water doesn't help - I'm knackered when I have to dry myself!!

I have a large fan in my bedroom which really helps at night. Drinking water pretty much constantly. Keep safe.

Doesn't it make a racket? I use ours for an hour or so before we retire.

As it is only about 25-27C before 10 am we try to go out for a short walk - when I can drag myself out of bed.

It is a tall standing fan with rubberised blades. I don’t find the β€œwhite noise” it makes, disturbing. The reviews remarked on how quiet it was.

I use ice pack to cool myself down when I feel like I am going to explode. It’s exhausting. Thank goodness it’s a bit cooler today . Xx

I had to laugh! I used an ice pack on my knees yesterday - a BIG mistake! Within an hour I was in agony.😩

Oh no . Did you wrap it in a towel?

Constance13 profile image
Constance13 in reply to Manchesterlady

Of course!πŸ˜‚

Constance13 profile image

Funny thing - I used it on my ankles and it helped!?!

Don't dry yourself - wrap yourself in a large towel and drip dry. The water evaporating is cooling.

Running cool water on pulse points - wrists or ankles - will also have a cooling effect. That's why your icepack at your ankles worked.

It isn't cooling much overnight for you but air the flat in the early morning until the indoor and outdoor temperatures are the same and then shut the windows and draw the curtains, drop the outside blinds if you have them. And stay indoors in the afternoon.

The forecast for Soest I just looked at shows it being back to mid to upper 20s by Friday, not another 12 days. The end is in sight!

Constance13 profile image
Constance13 in reply to PMRpro

I've just ordered a jumbo sized (hotel type) terry towelling bath robe. No more drying myself from now on.πŸ’₯

We've got the fan going all day now, changing it to different rooms. Blinds down 3/4 in every room.

Temperatures back to normal in a few days.

Good point - "cooling pulse points".

How are things in your part of the world?

Warm! Sunny with few clouds all day. But being high up it stops at 31C, is down to 15C or less overnight and if it is humid it is because it just rained and cooled things down! The temperature dropped 10C when it rained the other afternoon.

I have 4 silent fans and one that is so old and it a fixture in the ceiling..........it was rescued out of the garage of my neighbour, who was going to throw it away.

Like PMR pro blinds down from dawn. I cannot wait to get rid of it and it has just been three days. Tomorrow we are forecast thunder, rain etc...................yippee - if they have got it right for once. β›ˆπŸŒ¦β›ˆπŸŒ§πŸŒ©β›ˆ

Rather like us then!?! The fan! 🀣🀣

I'll never understand why the arthritis pain is soooo bad in heat.😏 Well, I suppose it is the humidity really.

What are your temperatures? One doesn't think of really high temperatures in the NE.

Are you still hibernating? We try to go out for a short walk before 10 am, however I'm still in bed at that time 2 or 3 times a week (having had breakfast brought in by my butler). The time is right though - no tourists!

Anything over 20C counts as a heatwave there! But it was 28C in York over the weekend ...

jinasc profile image
jinasc in reply to PMRpro

And 28c in my back garden....................the outside temp gauge a mate bought for a present about 8 years ago, finally reached the highest I have read...........the previous highest was 26c.

20c is livable with, I prefer 18c.

Ooooo! I like 23 - 25.

It helps to put your arms in a sink full of cold water for a few minutes, up to your elbows. It cools the blood

Constance13 profile image
Constance13 in reply to SheffieldJane

Ouch! Won't try that - the 'half bend' and the OA in elbows!

I have put 3 flannels in the fridge lately and wipe all the unclothed places as often as possible.

How are you keeping now? Any improvement? You have gone through it this year, haven't you?

Keep happy and active. C. πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸ’ƒπŸ€πŸ’₯

Ouch! I like the flannels idea.

Thank you for asking. It has been a plague year in more ways than one. Yet I have managed to have moments of pure childlike happiness and I am closer to nature than ever before. So there are gifts if I take time to notice. I am so grateful that my daughters, husbands and grandchildren are in a small Australian, seaside resort that has no cases at all, and never has. The forum keeps me sane. I have high hopes for Tocilizumab, my Pred is down to 10 mgs - amazing, so quick, after 4 years and recent GCA diagnosis.

Actually - just remembered: in Germany they use cloths wrapped around the shins to reduce a fever, Wadenwickel. Works. Will cool you now too.

Constance13 profile image
Constance13 in reply to PMRpro

That's an idea! The problem is I don't sweat - which I am told is not good. I was thrown out of a private sauna for that.

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to Constance13

It's not - sweating is the way the body keeps its temperature where it should be. If you aren't sweating you are at risk of heatstroke.

Constance13 profile image
Constance13 in reply to PMRpro

That's probably why the heatwave has affected me so much.

After living in various parts of the Middle East on and off for 20 years, my greatest pleasure was to open the freezer door ,and stick my head in..it worked !

I live with this heat and more for several months as I am in Spain. I go and do what I have to first thing in the morning and then stay in with all the blinds down and windows shut until six pm. We do have fans on and I spray myself with ice water as well. I used to love the heat not any more.

Constance13 profile image
Constance13 in reply to GlynisE

I hate closing out the light. But we do put the blinds down 3/4. We also do what we must before 10 am.

I discovered 'Cobbers' a few years ago. They are like neck scarves with gel - you have to soak them first. Wonderfully cooling and when too heavy for the neck, great on the wrists. You can get them online. I am not great in hot heat and these help me to keep sane (or my version of sane)

Constance13 profile image
Constance13 in reply to herdysheep

Not for me I'm afraid - I can't stand having anything round my neck - even in winter.

herdysheep profile image
herdysheep in reply to Constance13

I can't usually either but try and rest this on back of chair/back of neck to take the weight off. Doesn't have to go right round neck

LOL We are in a heat wave here and just broke the 33 day record for days over 110 F (43 C) and will be 116 F (47 C) today with no end in site. Try using a spray bottle of water to mist yourself in front of a fan. LOL

Constance13 profile image
Constance13 in reply to Dydee

Oh no! I find 33/34 unbearable - at least if I move. Still I get my exercise by standing in front of the fan every now and again. My friend (the recliner)🀣 beckons me more often!😏😎🍾🍸

LOL Mine too!! We have great air conditioning though.

We in Europe are not often blessed with built-in air conditioners.

So sorry. Have you seen those little portable personal AC units advertised on TV?

Constance13 profile image
Constance13 in reply to Dydee

Yes - I was thinking of one of those. Suffering nearly over now though - from Friday 26/27C, even cooler next week - I can cope with that.πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜‚πŸ‘΅πŸ»

I had one - a fan and a bowl of water works far better ...

Constance13 profile image
Constance13 in reply to PMRpro

I'm glad you said that!😊 I'd never thought of water - it would work better.

LOL Plus, maybe those little AC units will be cheaper next year.
