Update on tingling fingers.

I thought it might be helpful to post an update on a question that I asked on here two years ago.I was getting tingling ,numbness and swelling in my hands. It got extremely painful and I I was at my wits end.I looked on YouTube and found two incredible Physiotherapists and by searching through their many amazing videos found that the pain was caused by bad posture leading to pressure on my nerves. Of course PMRpro you were right!I seem to push my chin forward which puts my posture out of line. They show a correcting way of standing which worked. One has to stand up straight and imagine that someone has put a pie into your face so you retract it straight back. You also have to be very conscious of your neck position at all times. I always lift up the screens on any computer that I’m working on and follow their advice on pillow management. For a while I still had to get out of bed and do the Pie technique but it gradually got better and has resolved. The relief was instant each time and I am so grateful to them.

Something is wrong with this page and I can’t correct my mistakes so please excuse me!

Hope this helps someone

That’s so helpful! I do tend to slump and am worried about getting this Dowagers hump which apparently can come with steroids. The Pie technique sound a great idea. . I”m going to try it straightaway!

Thanks. Jane-should

The pred-related hump is a deposition of fat - there are specific places where steroid-associated fat deposits occur. The back of the neck is one.

Hello Jane, thank you, I’m so pleased. I used the Pie technique to deal with the tingling in my hands and it worked very well.I couldn’t have managed for much longer without learning how to do this .I was in severe pain!

My posture is always an issue. I constantly try to keep my shoulders back and down.Chin back.

The other thing that really helped me with neck issues was following the YouTube physios pillow advice but it conflicts with advice for avoiding gastric reflux .

PMR is certainly the gift that keeps on giving!

As my tingling/numbness in right hand is much worse when I wake up in the morning I am interested in your comments regarding 'pillow advice'. What is it please? Thanks

Dear Wenben.Good evening. I’ll try to find the proper place on YouTube regarding the pillow etc tomorrow. Bit tired now, sorry!

(Basically it’s the way you lie and using neck support under your neck in a way that doesn’t thrust your head forward)

Have you asked your GP for advice?

I won’t forget to look it up for you.

Thank you so much.... will have a look at that. I had thought it could be due to having osteoarthritis in shoulders wrists and the joints at the base of thumbs (and a few other places) but physios treating me for other issues before lockdown both said they thought it was a neck problem. Thanks again

Hello Dewdrop456, I know this goes back a few years but I have been reading some of your old posts, as they have proved useful to me (I have tingling and pain in my hands are arms). I was wondering if you could tell me what the Pie technique is and where I can find it. Thanks sooo much. Do hope you are proceeding well with your PMR journey.

Are these two fellows who have a practice together? If so, I have seen them and utilized some of their exercises too. So glad you got relief~!

That is them, Bob and Brad. I couldn't recall their names but they are easy to find on YouTube and offer such a variety of exercises. Dewdrop is spot on when she says they are easy to follow....and they are not selling anything~!💖
