I don't know if this is country specific or not, however I would like to draw your attention to a box on the page, below the post before the replies which at least where I am says access trusted advice and has a link to the Canadian site. This gives a very clear outline of everything we can do to limit our exposure and reduce our risks, and the risks to those around us. Is this the same link for everyone or is HU able to tailor it to your own country?
I am quite devastated that although we have as yet no known cases of COVID-19 where I live nevertheless practically everything I do has been suspended or cancelled.
Heck, I will no longer have ANY excuse to get out of doing housework. 😾

Most definitely... Can save much time of people wanting to get specific advice. For the mods and volunteers who may read and answer more question than tbed ordinary punter I think detail is everything. Country, age, illnesses, meds taken... It just make it easier...
I suppose it's via HU but I don't know. I do tend not to allow my location when asked by the browser. Only way to find out would be to delete that info (temporarily) from my profile I suppose. There is that feature in HU which can find people near you, so they do have location capability.
When your PC or phone connects to internet it is assigned unique IP address and that gives away your location. One has to use specialized software to hide their location ( like Torr browser or VPN connection). If either of those don't sound familiar, then you are not hiding your location regardless of your profile.
I have two moulting cats. And the place is extraordinarily dusty. And I get soooo tired and my back aches when I vacuum. I was so spoiled by our central vac. I've been told to get a roomba but that won't do the furniture dusting. Oh well. However, I confess I have only spot cleaned the kitchen floor. Was thinking the other day it was time I washed it. When I had crawling infants the kitchen floor got washed every evening - those were the days! There used to be a comic strip called Pickles with a couple of old people, at least they seemed old to me at the time. Her philosophy was you washed the kitchen floor when the cat stuck to it. 🤣😎
Hi HeronNs - those links you mention: UK NHS, US CDC & WHO open OK here but are country specific to UK, USA etc, nothing tailored for us here in New Zealand. Not to worry; we are getting bombarded with advice from every quarter here: the NZ Government, my local flying club (who are providing wipes to clean the flying controls after flight), my boat insurance company, my local supermarket and a computer store that I buy bits and pieces from online...
Here everything is closing down, except so far retail, and restaurants are limited to half their authorized capacity, or 250 people, whichever is lower, and I think this is because of what happened in Italy when everything sort of exploded even when it seemed the first couple of cases had been found and contacts dealt with. The first case may indicate there are a lot more wandering around out there, hence the superabundance of caution. And as has been pointed out on multiple occasions the quarantines and self-isolation are not really for the benefit of those who have or may have been infected, it's for the rest of us. So although I am already feelling the loss of the library and the church programs I can't be upset about it. Just a bit crabby, that's all. But I know it was the right thing to do. We were the last province in Canada to have cases, and all three are travel related, and not related in any way to each other.
Went to the supermarket this morning, it was busy, and restocked some of the things I'd bought before which we have subsequently used up in the normal course of life. (I know, I know, that stash was supposed to be untouched until needed.) But for the first time found no toilet paper and there were only a handful of tissue boxes left. Fortunately I had heeded the original warning. But now I think I should have got more when I had the chance, accusations of hoarding be damned, because when will the next supply be available? Wish they had limited people's purchases right from the beginning.
Strangely tonight (at home) I have only one box to click, for NHS but yesterday when I was staying elsewhere it gave me three options, NHS or the equivalent Canadian or US sites....🤔
oh it must be your physical location according to the device or the server or something. Interesting. I'm quite happy with the Canada site, it's clear and easy to navigate, but it is interesting to see how other government sites work.
I think because in the USA there is no testing yet for all intents and purposes we dont really know if we have cases around us. Wait a couple weeks! I am happy everything is closing down. Not to just stop my doomsday eating!
There are now three "presumptive" cases in Nova Scotia, all travel related, awaiting confirmation from the lab in Winnipeg. My son just dropped off some home made bread and other goodies and we hugged each other, and then realized we shouldn't have. Sigh. He was on his way over to his workplace to pick up some equipment so he can have all he needs to work from home. Things are shutting down all around us. I feel so bad for all the people who live hand to mouth really, and the small business owners who won't be getting any business, that is such a terrible thing for so many people around the globe now.
Exactly!! Here in our small rural town the gym, community centre, library, theatre are closed. Somehow the ice rink and pool remain open?? Those spots will be swamped as all the students are home for 3 weeks.
The poor folks in the travel industry, retail, etc are being hit hard. I feel for those who cannot work at home, but at least they can apply for EI, with no waiting period. Not their full wages though, so there will be struggles.
I was able to get 6 weeks worth of pred today AND toilet paper...but the shelves that held bread were empty. Diaper wipes scarce too. So strange!
It was so strange. Earlier today I checked the update on local conditions which is in that Canadian link about covid and Nova Scotia wasn't on the list. Then my son shows up and tells me there are three presumptive cases, so I checked again, and sadly we have joined the rest of the country. But in the website there is also a graph showing new cases over the past few months and there was a sudden peak in early March which has dropped down since. Interesting.
I'm really pleased the feds have shown concern for those who'll be out of work, and even some gesture towards helping those who aren't eligible for EI, and I hope very much that the system works well for those who really need it (and the inevitable cheats are quickly caught).
I've debated getting the second half of my pred prescription filled. It expires next week and I only got half last time. But if my taper continues to be successful, and I really think there is no reason why it shouldn't the way I've been lately, I have a potentially indefinite supply which will see me to zero with some leftover just in case.
I counted out what I have and if I take .5 mg every day I have enough for three months, but I'm tapering, so will be taking even less.... I calculated if I still need it when I run out I should be seeing my doctor again anyway.
That really should be enough but my mum was one of those panic buyers years ago and although i dont send the kids in separately to buy limited item goods like she did, i still have a small stock pile of drugs!!
The lock down for UK over 70s is 4months. Its is going to get worse before it get better. I have topped my meds up but am checking I have enough even though I am not over 70.
Yes. I do agree. My brain boggled now. There must be enough on the forum to answer any question now if read. One relevant post with no chit chat... I am as bad as, worse than most for shifting to next level subject or my concern.
I am dreading everything being cancelled too - already had a visit to historic house cancelled that I had to book a year in advance - happy for vulnerable and those with coughs to stay at home but we need contact and activity to stay sane
It feels weird there in the little graveyard. I am sure it's just in the mind but is oppressive as you drop down the field knowing about the plague etc.
Off topic, but I was thinking that this might be of interest... I don't know if anyone has come across the YouTube channel belonging to Dr. John Campbell, who I've become a huge fan of. He posts daily, and today he was discussing anti-inflammatory drugs and their relationship to the virus, and advising adults to see a fever out, no matter how unpleasant. He's UK based, but he discusses most countries and how they are handling the virus, good and bad.
His point being, I suppose, that fever is one of the body's ways of fighting infection? But there must be a point at which fever becomes dangerous and should be treated?
