Ha! Brilliant! You found it eventually! What is the flag of Nova Scotia? Is that it top left? Blue saltire on white with lion rampant?

Yes! It was sent to me by a member of the Helen Creighton Folklore Society.

I got bored with 'Happy Birthday'. After all it is probably the most banal song in the world and singing it twice several times a day was too much for this sensitive flower. I'm currently singing a couple of verses of 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' and intend to try a couple of the 12 Mozart variations when I get bored with the basic version. Fortunately my flat is well sound-proofed.

We will all be having split, sore and infected hands next.

linda49 profile image
linda49 in reply to

Not split sore and infected yet, but definitely much drier and itchy with the additional hand washing.

in reply tolinda49

Yes I am glad I had just ordered a new doublebase gel 3 weeks ago. They are still like sandpaper though!

linda49 profile image
linda49 in reply to

I haveDermol 500 on prescription so using that more frequently too.

in reply tolinda49

Hope we can grip things!!

linda49 profile image
linda49 in reply to

Dermol seems less “greasy”: than Doublebase which I used to have on my prescription. It’s absorbed very quickly. Our practice nurse recommended I try it and I’ve been using it for a couple of years now.

in reply tolinda49

I will have a look when this dbgel finished. I tend to just do the back of my hands normally but the increased hand sanitisers are impacting too.

Already got a split on thumb, really sore every time I wash hands. Using lots of moisturiser, and using rubber gloves for most jobs.

in reply toMarcy47

Have you got a tiny bit of sudacream and I oy wear glove for 5 mins so they don't get swety. I also have this silicone based lady anti monkey butt powder that stops sweating and friction for cyclists. Was a must that hot summer. I hope the thumb clears up...

Marcy47 profile image
Marcy47 in reply to

Thanks for your reply. Yes have got sudocream. Used 1 glove yesterday when cutting up raw chicken breast.

in reply toMarcy47

Yes. I always buy big boxes of 200 gloves that fit either hand as I often just need 1 glove for a job.

Me too, bought a new box a couple of months ago - just call me Mystic Meg!

in reply toDorsetLady

I ran out a couple of weeks ago and ordered Monday pm... They arrived from a well known amazon site within 12 hours. 🤭

This is the best thing I have found for deep splits on my thumb which won't heal which I’ve suffered from for ages. Bag balm. Invented in 19th century for cow's udders I think (other suppliers are available). It doesn’t smell great but works better than anything else I have ever tried. I can’t remember who put me on to it but it definitely works! Lasts for ages too.

in reply toHighlandtiger

Is it like snow balm!?

Highlandtiger profile image
Highlandtiger in reply to

Don't know what snow balm is! 🤷🏻‍♀️

in reply toHighlandtiger

Sorry snowfire.... My dad and his fisherman's friends used to use it...... 😂🤣😂 Real Men who happened to fish. Sorry tickled me.

healthpharm.co.uk/products/...

in reply to

I haven't used that site.... But i did use the balm when I was looking after dad and spent hours walking the dogs on the beach in mud winter. It seemed to help but no pred then.

Highlandtiger profile image
Highlandtiger in reply to

It’s different but I’ve actually tried this one too! It’s quite good too and less messy as it’s a stick. I keep that one at work to top up if I have a thumb hack. Bag balm at home and Snowfire at work....

Thanks for that, I will give it a go.

~Right on Poops - considering I wash sensitive + areas with an emulsifying ointment plus very little soap on my hands will resort to wearing my disposable latex free gloves more often.

Can envision OCD numbers on the rise too ~

in reply toMegams

You are welcome to join... Years of germ phobia and watching zombie apocolypse films is paying off.

Megams profile image
Megams in reply to

~I'll just scrub the living daylights out of my latex gloves - have enough nightmares as it is without watching apocalypse films ;) ;)

in reply toMegams

Two days ago before I used a trley, that I usually wipe of, I sanitised my hands. Put the gloves on and sanitised them for trolley handle cleaning and hand scanner. The hand scanner can be disgusting so I always clean with a dettol wipe.. Which I may or may not buy 😉

in reply toMegams

I did pick up aqueous cream up in pound land last week and put it down. I did buy some baby washing lotion. I have a family bought dove moisturising shower lotion that is too slippy in the shower, but can be de cantered and used with anti bacterial. My hands free dispenser batteries are taking a hammering!

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS in reply to

Best thing I've ever found for dried up hands is food grade hemp oil. Along with the cream I used for years which is now discontinued.

I've been singing "Baby Shark" as got bored of Happy Birthday or Nellie the Elephant (one of the recommended CPR rhythms). Might get to "Staying Alive" next. :)

As an ex healthcare worker I find I wash for more than 20 secs. I am using Zeroveen to stop my hands getting sore (Aveno) which I am prescribed for my dry sensitive skin.

We've had a lot of fun thinking up better hand washing songs!

I have put to good use those little hotel freebees that we all bring home and never use. Carrying a mini shower gel or shampoo in my handbag (which is akin to Mary Poppins bag) in case somewhere has no handwash. Anything that foams will substitute for handsoap as it all contains surfactants which can "explode" and thus kill the virus.

Realised I have unconsciously always been a prepper too. Far too many Walking Dead series and apocalyptic book reading ;)

in reply toS4ndy

And why do they leave doors open on WD when they go into a building??

S4ndy profile image
S4ndy in reply to

Yep, we have great fun picking holes in the plot on WD! Ever seen anyone wash their hands for instance and why run about shouting at each other too! Must admit though I have my zombie killing knife at the ready!

in reply toS4ndy

😂 🤣 😂 I do or did likevtge first 3 series of znation... Zombies with humour.

Strangely I’ve found myself trying out some rousing old fashioned hymns from my childhood! I’ve not heard/sung them for many many years so I don’t know where they’ve come from all of a sudden. Currently on 'Will your anchor hold...?' which works well. Agree you have to keep changing the tune though or you get bored. Good tip to take a wee bottle of shower gel. Will add to my already voluminous handbag!

When I worked I had the reputation of having a pin to an elephant in my bag. Took out the elephant to fit all the cleaning stuff in!

How about Make me a channel of your peace, one of my favourites :)

Are you a Methodist?????

Highlandtiger profile image
Highlandtiger in reply toPMRpro

No......why?

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toHighlandtiger

Will your anchor hold was very Methodist - and I had a friend who'd have been well known in your area ...

Highlandtiger profile image
Highlandtiger in reply toPMRpro

Oh, I didn’t know that it was Methodist. I’ve no idea why it came to mind now for hand washing! It reminds me, for some reason, of North Lanarkshire where my grandparents, great aunties, cousins etc all lived and who we visited often when I was a child. I think it was a Boys Brigade favourite maybe? And maybe one for the Navy? Not sure.

I’m sure another one will pop into my mind sometime soon! I’m always amazed how I can remember all the words from songs (whether hymns or pop songs) from my childhood and teenage years even although I've not heard them for donkeys' years.

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toHighlandtiger

Yes, BB may well be a link.

in reply toHighlandtiger

I often sing along to songs and then think I didn't know I knew the words to that. It is a good exercise of patients with dementias isn't it so obvious our brains have little access points we can't access if we try and come up with lyrics but can access casually or chorally singing along.

I just can't sing washing

my hands time and time again! (miserable old s-d)!😜 I just count to 25, forwards or backwards.

in reply toConstance13

I stick the radio on and do a singalong... Probably need to stop washing for the 3mins the song lasts. 😉

I used to get Aveeno on prescription but it was withdrawn about a year ago.

S4ndy profile image
S4ndy in reply tomaria40

I get Zeroveen on prescription in the uk. This is made by the same maker as Aveeno to a very similar formula.

maria40 profile image
maria40 in reply toS4ndy

Thanks. Next time I speak to GP I'll see if I can get it again. Good moisturisers are expensive to buy.
