Day four back pain

PMRpro,

I added 800 mg of ibuprofen last night and today, upping the prilosec to protect my stomach. I have a similar history of mis dx as you. Had to take 10 mg of Valium each time. It helps but l am still hobbling with a walker.

I was dx’d with fibromyalgia in 1993 at age 48 after going through RAI 131 for Graves and surviving a terrible car accident the same day.

All neck and shoulder and back pain has been attributed to that accident but the PMR was totally missed as my SED and C Reactive Protein and inflammatory markers have always been normal. I landed up in hospital with thyroid storm. PMR can be brought on by trauma.

Thought I had a PhD in pain tolerance but this current episode has been devastating. I am now thinking it is not related to prednisone reduction as muscle relaxant helps somewhat. Dr says extreme muscle spasm. I am sleeping in recliner as I wake up screaming in pain when I have tried sleeping in our bed.

If by Monday I am not out of pain, l will request MRI. It’s easy to attribute everything to PMR-GCA but l think this may simply be my de conditioned self trying to lift something too heavy.

Sounds like a real trial. This isn’t a quick fix I know, just supportive, but are you on top of your nutrients like magnesium and potassium?

Very up to date on nutrition and supplements - thyroid, blood sugar, etc ... doctors give me lots of accolades for my commitment to nutrition. The back fracture is not surprising... previous car accidents caused lots of trauma. I continue to live a very full life, defiantly so but the last 12 months have been one medical melodrama after another.

If the doctor says muscle spasm - you probably need some more targeted treatment on the muscle affected. I know I do - or have to be very patient and immobile for a week or two.
