Hello Forum Folks ,

I don't know if you are like me and feel the Pain and Stiffness from your symptoms a lot more in these winter months , but if you do I hope today's Pick and Mix will help you through.

I thought I would mix things up today , as we are all busy ( although at Festive Pacing speed , of courseπŸ˜‹) , so if you just want to indulge in just some simple Brain Training , our little quiz comes first.

β›„β„β›„β„β›„β„πŸŽ…β„πŸŽ…β„πŸŽ…β„ πŸš€β„πŸš€ TODAY'S QUIZ! πŸš€β„πŸš€β„πŸŽ…β„πŸŽ…β„πŸŽ…β„β›„β„β›„β„β›„

Look at the photo. This is Santa , and long suffering Eldest Offspring, Eric , the Stand In Elf . Forced to take over the role because the original Little Helper was bound to get sea sick on a voyage , after somebody had the bright idea that Santa should arrive by Sea to man the Village Grotto!

So , Santa , armed with three bottles of beer for warmth , and poor Eric in a pair of tights two sizes too small for her , embarked on a boat trip around our lovely island of Anglesey in December to avoid spoiling the surprise of little children waiting for him to arrive. Unfortunately , as choirs and speakers are known to do , the concert before the real fun began over ran , forcing poor Elf Eric and Santa to brave the choppy waves and the cold for two whole trips around our Isle before they were allowed to come in to shore. So , the question I have for you today is , can you guess how many miles these brave Fairy Folk travelled to reach their Magical Destination?

Replies below , and answers tomorrow !

Plus if you have any tales of equally amusing Christmas antics , when you too went that extra mile to save the Festive Fun Day , I'm sure we would all love to share your memories to help beat the chill with a little laughter.

Next......

🌟🌟🌟 AUNTY BEEs STAR BUY For WINTER or PAIN 🌟🌟🌟

A recommendation for a Warming Gift to buy yourself , something that not only Aunty Bee has tested with success for the last six months , but is now being sported under the jumpers and coats at outdoor events , or snuggled up with in bed , by half of her friends and the rest of the Family too.

The Star buy of my year to beat , Lumbar Back , Sacroiliac and Hip Pain and UTI , stomach and Kidney aches , both night and day , at home and out and about , has been....

The , DYNAMIK Hot and Cold Back and Abdominal Wrap

This wrap has been my life saver , especially while doing jobs in the house , suffering from a mini flare of all types of pain , reducing stiffness doing activities , and stopping the aches during travelling , or at concerts and even on walks. It's clay pack is the key , were it beats other packs hands down . No more hot water scald threats , ice burn, or smouldering wheat in the micro bag . And it retains heat right the way through the night , whilst also not straying from the exact spot you need it in bed ,or as you move about the house, because of its comfy body wrap.

The wrap itself , is a generous size and the width back support can add extra pain relief when worn tightly around the waist or hip area . It gives compression in the right spots to ease pressure on the sacroiliac or lumbar areas , and increases circulation where it counts. It can be hidden too , pretty easily under a jumper or coat so none of your friends need to know the secret that helped you go out. Meaning you can go to that Carol concert in a draughty Church , or cope a little easier when you go on a little walk , as the cold is usually the thing that puts us off this activity even on a Sunny Winters Day . Mr . Bee , a Diabetic, wore his marking for hours at a table and refereeing a match , even Grandma has one for lower abdominal pain , just keep tight hold if you get one , as soon as one of your Family try it they won't want to give it back!

Score : 10/10 , Available from various outlets including Amazon , at a cost of Β£10.79!

⛄❄⛄❄⛄❄⛄❄⛄❄⛄❄⛄❄⛄❄⛄❄⛄❄⛄❄⛄❄⛄❄⛄❄⛄❄⛄❄⛄❄⛄❄⛄❄

And , my final thought .....

AUNTY BEE HAS A HUMBUG SIZED RANT on OUTDOOR EVENTS!!!

I have been invited to many things over this Festive Season , and in fact over many years of increasing Chronic Pain , as my Fibro , Neuralgia and Ehlers Danlos symptoms grew . Each year , it has become more and more of a struggle to take part in these occasions . And now , with the Hairy Cherry on the top of the Pain Cupcake of GCA and Heart Issues , my Festive activity list had to become more limited than ever. I have had to cancel attending most events, and not always because of Flares of Pain and Fatigue but simply because so many of the things we get invited to simply do not cater to our Symptom and Motility needs with a Chronic " Invisible " illness like PMR , GCA , or the rest of the Agonising Gang.

When was it that the Rest of the World decided that every major Magical Event had to be held outdoors?

Draughty Halls and Chilly Churches and Temples were bad enough . Yet now it seems your Big Winter Event isn't showstopping enough unless it includes real weather and environmental Special Effects . The School concert held under the shelter in the playground to a standing audience. It's not a Nativity unless done in a Barn on a Farm . Your Winter Grottos must be in the woods , or , " Hey! We thought we would hold our show by candlelight up the side of Macchu Picchu !!! "

The options are endless , and wonderful for the perfectly Young and Healthy , but when did people stop remembering the real meaning of Christmas or Yule is about gathering together , bringing the gift of Light and Companionship to All ? Not just those that are able to cross a Forest on a guided walk by Lantern light.

It's hard enough for Us "Invisible Illness Warriors " to Polywobble to the Corner Shop , you can forget about trying to cross an assault course of branches and twigs in torchlight to watch Little Johnnie do the Dance of the Sprites under Pine Trees on Equinox Night!!

Ooohh!!! It's enough to bring on a Flare just thinking about it . Or a Scrooge sized rant like this one of Aunty Bees ,when , to add insult to injury , you are made to feel guilty for having to cancel these activities . Especially when the cause of that cancellation isn't even your fault!! As on many of these occasions it isn't the Disease that's the problem but that Wonderland is steadily becoming "Access Only" to the Able Bodied!

There may well be more Mobility Ramps , TV Programmes , Disability Activities and Gadgets to help us in the Modern World , but in my opinion , the gap in Equality for All is widening , and it will keep on doing so , because it's the Thought and Consideration put into planning by folks in the Real World that still has a blooming long way to Go!

It's enough to make Aunty Bee want to take up her Megaphone again and protest with Greta , if only she would come inside from her boat or outdoor stage in Winter and go somewhere warm instead!

Hugs and enough Warm and Toasty wishes to keep those Winter Chills at Bay , Auntie Bee XXX

It wouldn't be a real Christmas without a little Bah Humbugging now would it.

I even have my Black Bah Humbug Santa hat over my headache sock today , whose says Chronic Pain has to stop us looking festive!

Hope you dressed warmly for your trip out today and those strength building walks you are doing.

So very proud of your progress past the Myopathy , big hug xxx

Thanks, I did my walk around tesco's today, warmer but the muscles ache more than when I walk the garden or farm

I think the scenery sometimes helps to improve the activity .

Although it's not as though being inside a Supermarket is like being out of the cold , especially when you get to the fridge and freezer aisles , or if they have chosen to leave both sets of doors open into the shop sending a draught down the length of the check out queue.

At least if you are pottering around near to home or at the park you can stop when it gets too much and get in the car or go inside.

If you are in a big superstore and have already used all your spoons filling your trolley you feel like you have to just grin and bear it and shiver until you are served.

Gosh , I am getting some of my Room 101 annoyances off my chest today aren't I?πŸ˜‹

Scats loved her potter to the meat counter, down the tinned fruit aisle and through the checkouts. She had been fortified by coffee beforehand!!

You could share it , One of you could shout , " Bah!" And the other , " Humbug!" , I'd love to see you both sitting on a bench in Santa Hats acting like Scrooge Tag team!πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜˜πŸ˜

Are you just saying No! to Christmas ?

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to Blearyeyed

Yup. I'm nothing if not consistent ...

We have lights up on the balcony - to lighten the darkness. And 9 cards stuck into the CD rack to get them out of the way. No turkey, maybe a bit of xmas pudding and himself will want mincepies I imagine so I will have to summon up the enthusiam to make them. I like them but can live without - I did last year. Dinner on the 25th was a slice of ham that needed using up and a spoon of brandy butter - I'd made that before OH headed back to hospital.

Im going to add on my really easy chuck in a bowl recipe for Lower Carb Xmas Pudding ice cream bombes tomorrow so you might like that . Are the Family here yet , or is that over the weekend?

scats in reply to Blearyeyed

I doze off after lunch and wake up to find an email from Pro saying " I'll fight you for it"

What on earth did I say? What does she want to fight me for? I can't imagine!

Ah that...Right you're on!

No one is crabbier than me at christmas. Walking sticks at dawn!

From what I've read I'm a good deal taller than you and carry considerable mmm 'heft' shall we say. So bring it on!

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to scats

Oh I'd eat some if it were put in front of me - but I can't nip to M&S remember! And I do find turkey (which I can get) very underwhelming. I only ever ate it for the add-ons - which I can't get so would have to make them all myself.

scats profile image
scats in reply to PMRpro

Me neither ( pedestrianised ) it's got to be home made to be worth eating, can't stand all those fussy little mouthfulls.

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to scats

We can't/don't eat much and it is just 2 of us - all that effort for it not to be eaten!!! The family is here this year: 2 vegans and 2 fussy eaters and 1 who's had a good meal when he ate 3oz of meat and half a portion of mash or 15 thin cut chips!!!!!

scats profile image
scats in reply to PMRpro

.....and a partridge in a pear tree!

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to scats

Lord - hope they don't bring one of them!!!!

Blearyeyed profile image
Blearyeyed in reply to PMRpro

Is that because you don't know what you would feed it or is it that you aren't sure how to cook it?!πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to Blearyeyed

It would result in a fight - 2 vegans wanting to feed it, 4 omnivores considering roasting it ...

Blearyeyed profile image
Blearyeyed in reply to PMRpro

Mand S are doing deliveries from January next year , do you think they come as far as you? πŸ˜‹

If I ever win the Lottery ( which might prove difficult as I don't play it) I could send you a hamper from Fortune and Masons , they will deliver absolutely anywhere in 48 hours if you have the cash to pay for it.

Proved by a friend whom whilst on overseas military training was left on an isolated island for a week and broke his rule of radio silence to get a delivery. They dropped of everything from a tent to a nice bottle of Port next day from a helicopter!!

He was mildly reprimanded for his efforts but also commended for his ingenuity.πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜˜

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Is that like the Queen of Hell Fire but the festive version πŸ˜‹πŸ˜˜

Not much festive ...

Yellowbluebell profile image

I am guessing if they did the island twice then its about 100 miles or 135 nautical miles. This is after advice from mr bluebell!!

Blearyeyed profile image
Blearyeyed in reply to Yellowbluebell

Umm , is he your version of cheating by using Google at the Pub Quiz?πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

You will find out tomorrow if Mr. Bluebell has won πŸ˜‹πŸ˜˜πŸ˜˜πŸ˜

Yellowbluebell profile image
Yellowbluebell in reply to Blearyeyed

Not cheating but as scats will tell you i have no sense of direction and have visited havant before now when i should have been meeting her at tescos in chichester. I missed the turning (not the first time!!) and ended up doing an extra 20 mile round trip!!

Blearyeyed profile image
Blearyeyed in reply to Yellowbluebell

So what you are saying is if you had been in charge of the Stingray that day , Eric Elf and Santa might have ended up back at the North Pole before they reached their stint at the Grotto!πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Travel around Anglesey YB Style , distance 2300 miles !!!!

Yellowbluebell profile image
Yellowbluebell in reply to Blearyeyed

That a reasonable assumption based on my history of getting lost or having done a detour!!

Blearyeyed profile image
Blearyeyed in reply to Yellowbluebell

I'll warn Santa not to put you in charge of the GPS coordinates for his trip on Christmas Eve then !πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Yes , it would have been fun , if you spent time there you might be able to guess which Bay the photo was taken in.

Do you ever get back over there , if so , let me know , I'd come out if the house in the cold to see you !πŸ˜‹πŸ˜

Plus , you could probably guess the mileage in the quiz

I was considering wintering every year in Spain until this recent bout began , all plans suspended until the GCA and ticker issues are finally managed , but hopefully soon , let's face it at nearly two years of testing and prodding they must finally be able to make a more successful treatment choice by 2020!!!

So , if I get to Viva Espana , I will have to come and find you 😘

Keep warm me ducks as they say in the Frozen North !!! xxx

I will go with 144 miles. I’m definitely interested in the heat pad thingy, thanks...plus I have a Β£10 Amazon voucher..yippee! But I can’t go to any indoor Christmas thingies any more due to lung and germs issues, so I quite welcome the odd outside occasion where you can have a bit of space and breathe fresh air without fear of bugs!! In thermal trousers, layers to look like Michelin woman, followed by night of cramping painful muscles!!! LOL, it’s a good life if you don’t weaken! S xx

Blearyeyed profile image
Blearyeyed in reply to Pixix

It works well when you are outside.

Have you ever tried using the compression leggings and long sleeve tops that are used by runners and athletes , I wear them under my normal clothing and they help boost the circulation as well as adding warmth , they do help reduce after event or exercise pain a bit as well.

I choose leggings and toeless compression socks , or footless compression tights , then comfy socks as I find my toes can get colder in a full compression tight or sock because they can't wiggle about.

I also have some lovely thermal fleece lined up underwear tops and bottoms from M and S . And I wear earmuffs , a furry ski head band or a multi functional cowl ( also good to keep the germs away as it has a attachment that you can pull over your nose ) rather than a hat as I find it keeps me warm without irritating my scalp or causing me some of the nerve pain and headaches that a hat can bring on.

Last , I have arthritic gloves which are again compressive with just finger tips missing with under another pair of touch screen gloves .

It's all about the layering isn't it xxx

Pixix profile image
Pixix in reply to Blearyeyed

I tried the arthritic gloves, but never thought of getting touch screen gloves to put on top, thanks! I have ski gear as we used to go every year. I’ve bought a pair of fleecy lined trousers in a sale, & I’m wearing leggings indoors now. Layers are the right thing...I need to get more than one of each item for when they are in the wash, but I’m getting there. I was always the one person who was too hot...always...even in the snow! It takes a bit of adaptation. I do have a heated underblanket now. Thanks for your tips, really appreciate them. S xx
