Life with pmr/gca

Many posts have been written over the past year by people lamenting the loss of abilities since dx. I've written my share. It all does get better, just not the same as we were, or as soon as we'd like. Hair falls out, most gain weight, everything changes. I try to make myself feel better from a quote from the little book The Velveteen Rabbit. "when you are REAL , shabbiness doesn't matter." Lol. So many things (and even a few toxic people) aren't a concern any more. As the story goes, I am becoming "Real" and that's a good thing. Thank you so much to all who have helped along this journey. Hope 2020 will be the best year ever for all!

What a lovely post and quote , I'd completely forgotten about that book , as I hadn't given bedtime stories for many years and it's not as well used in the UK.

I will write in my notebook of inspiring stuff xxx

PS , a quote from one of my children's favourite books by Jez Alborough, "HUG!" 😘

I've been at 2 weddings where they read from it - more common than you think I suspect.

I read part of the Velveteen rabbit at my daughter’s wedding - not a dry eye in the house - especially the cameraman. 😍

Yes, it's a lovely little book; filled with many interpretations & levels. Thank you for all your great replies to me and others. Best wishes!

I live a much simpler life and for that I am thankful. I don't believe that will change once I'm "well".

I have to own to having never read the book. Have heard of it and heard odd quotes but not the full thing. Now off to check ebay and amazon for a copy.

That's the beauty of it. It's not too young or old for anyone. I think different interpretations at different stages of life, and probably, different learning stages.

I will prob read it to zach then and see what he thinksx

There's a lovely audible version on YouTube, I've just had a relaxing time with feet up listening to it . Perfect excuse for half an hour of rest.

Here's the link: youtube.com/watch?v=6bmhDNT... (hope this is allowed, all in the name of our wellbeing!)

Can't beat an actual book... I didn't read it, or have it read to me as a child but never too late to make memories!

Thanks for the post Spanky 2019.

Thanks. I listened last night. A lovely story and beautifully read by the narrator.

I don’t remember knowing about it as a child at all.

Yes, he has a very soothing, clear voice - he'll be wondering where all his extra listeners have come from!

Maybe the answer to prednisone induced insomnia are bedtime stories.

So enjoyed listening to this sweet story. Relaxed me for a ti me having just been diagnosed yesterday with a relapse of GCA and feeling a little glum, particuarly as we should have been enjoying the sun in Malibu with our son and family. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
