Is there anyone else who has the following: feeling cold, when others are wearing short sleeves, I have to wear long sleeved shirt. Especially a coldness on the back of my neck and down my back. Is it the PMR, or could it be an effect of prednisone?
Chills: Is there anyone else who has the following... - PMRGCAuk
Chills
I have always been a bit of a freezer so can't say it is PMR / pred. Will be interesting what others come back with.
There is one theory that autoimmune inflammation upset the body's temperature regulation.
For me it is the other way round usually - OH is turning the heating up and I'm in short sleeves and bare feet because I'm melting. But a few years ago for 2 winters it was the other way round - suddenly I felt cold too! In the early days of PMR with no pred I had cold patches on my back that actually FELT cold to the touch., especially on the top of my buttocks.
As Alice said, "curiouser and curiouser. My age may have a lot to do with it. Also living my early life in a warm/hot sunny climate and then moving to a colder place could have an effect. I feel cold when the sun doesn't shine.
Absolutely Yes !
The amount of times my daughter walks in wearing just a t-shirt and a tell her to go and put a jumper on is ridiculous , she says , ' I'm not cold!' and I say , ' Yes, but you're making me cold' .
It's not just me Mr. Bee tells her off for doing it to him too.
Until she looks warm our chills never settle down.
Yet I can still remember being outside in cycling shorts and a t-shirt in the Snows of Yorkshire when I was a teenager.
Hi Noosat, very interesting. I have the exact opposite problem, I've been glowing all over since diagnosis of PMR in June 2018, followed soon after by GCA. I go out in the cold, everyone is wrapped up, and me with my thinnest jacket unzipped. Trevor.
I am too hot. Especially in the morning after I take my prednisone.
Well pred makes me cold! I’m positive it’s the prednisone since I’ve recently split my dose taking 10 mg in the morning and 5 after lunch which cut down on my frozen fingers, dry eyes and dry mouth.
I am too hot mostly —— & then too cold! I can’t seem to balance my body temperature. I have always felt the cold more but now it’s either one thing or the other—- no in -between!! Layers are the answer!! xxx
I have always worked outdoors and enjoyed changes in season but since having RA and GCA have felt the cold much more. Interestingly yesterday I was feeling very tired and under the weather and started to feel cold and with chilly back whilst indoors. I was a little concerned as this was how my sepsis started. Funny now but I was trying to email the gas engineer over boiler problems when I felt an icy back and my hands started shaking so much they were involuntarily hitting the keys. Thought I had flu but felt so awfull contacted my GP and he said come in I’ll check you out. He shipped me straight out to A&E where I spent 5 days on intravenous antibiotics. Good job I didn’t just go to bed with a lemsip!! When I got home I found notes I had been making in the night Where I had been up and down taking my temperature. Could not recall doing it obviously been confused! The good news is this morning I have woken feeling fine.
I do think that something happens to the body’s thermostat. I am the opposite to you though - overheating easily - kicking covers off at night - always having the windows open. I haven’t worn a winter coat yet - just too hot. M& S do a temperature regulating range in underwear and tights, might be worth a try. Keep your neck warm with scarves and high necked jumpers. It sounds unpleasant. Have you had your thyroid levels checked, hypothyroidism makes you cold ?
I often feel the cold especially around my neck and shoulders even in summer. I wear scarfs and have a heated shoulder wrap which is great when my shoulders ache. I take a soft pashmina on holiday for evenings. I've always felt the chill but its been worse since diagnosed with PMR.
Hi, yes I do and even with my thermal vest on ( well I am 68) but in an evening I always feel warm. I did ask my doctor actually and wether it’s right or not I don’t know. He said it’s because of the steroids and being on them for so long has just thinned my skin. YES full of wrinkles !!
