I take 2250 of collagen because Predisone takes away collagen . I take 3 tablets of Omega 3's and I take magnesium 500 mgs various times during the day magnesium at night and turmeric in capsule form at night I find I can add 45 minutes on to my sleep. Anybody else do this. Will be asking doctor on Monday if they are harmful.

I took these supplements before I wandering if anybody in this community takes these.
None of those are harmful - all good stuff - just ensure from a good provenance - not via Amazon...
Thank you! Yes I know you have to watch what you buy from Amazon socks yes not supplements😉
HeronNS will be along later (Canada) she’s pretty much the Resident Expert on Supplements.
Kind Regards

Thank you for the compliment but only in reference to dealing with bone strength. And then it's only to tell people to add Vitamin K2 to their calcium and Vitamin D3, and make sure they have enough magnesium as well.
Why Vitamin k ask of knowledge on my part can you send some light
I am sure heron will be along and may correct me I understand it is to help disperse any excess calcium away from the heart and arteries. I have been known to be wrong🤔
I replied as you reminded me to have my vit k2 spray!!
Vitamin K2, not K1. A good introduction:

Spray or tablets ? If tablets what strength should I take ?
I have no personal experience of the spray but have heard it is a better, more readily absorbed form. And the only "official" recommended dose I know of, would like to hear if anyone else has more info, is the Australians recommend 180 mcg K2-7 per day, which is close to the 2x100 capsules I take.
And there is always the caveat that if anyone is on a warfarin-type medication they have to be cautious.
Thanks!
Remember its not only about quality but whether they may react with other meds you are taking. Speak to your pharmacist about the mixture of supplements you are taking.
I am devastated that my pharmacist of 15 plus years has left my little chemist to locum around the region. She never had to look me up when I asked about meds and supplements as she knew my history of meds. 😭
Check with your pharmacist whether you can mix tablets. They are usually much more knowledgable than doctors.
Hi, Yes I take Omega III, magnesium, turmeric, Vitamin K2, a B compound tablet, a pro-biotic Vitamin C powder and CBD oil. I have told both my GP and Rheumy and neither has any issues. Oh, and my calcium...
Well at least I can count on somevthis. I will talk to my rheumatologist Monday see what he says Thank you
As long as you don't have any other health issues or medications that prevent use of these supplements ( probably worth checking against interaction lists on the internet for any other things you might have ) they should not cause you an issue.
I don't take any of my supplements with my steroids , I have a Pred breakfast and then a second breakfast ( just like a Hobbit!) a few hours later with the first of my supplements and other pain meds.
I assume you take the recommended Calcium and Vitamin D supplement as well although you didn't list it . I take these with my lunchtime meal along with my prescribed Collagen supplement ( this is for my Connective Tissue Disorder), I don't mix any of my other supplements with these taking the others at second breakfast or in the evening. Magnesium is particularly good to reduce side effects like neuro pain , poor circulation and restless legs , but I don't take it particularly at the same time as the Calcium and Vitamin D as they can reduce absorption of each other , and I like to get the full bang for my buck!!
Turmeric , I have for my Gastric issues and IBS , I haven't found it makes any noticeable difference to my joint or inflammatory pain when I take a break on it but it makes a huge difference to my stomach issues .
I have no gastric reflux either while using turmeric and using the probiotic yoghurt and honey while taking my steroids or any stronger medication.
I also take a complex vitamin mineral supplement which has Calcium missing from the ingredients and low Vitamin D, so I can be sure I'm not taking too much of these supplements.
The one habit I do follow with supplements is making sure I take them mid meal , as it allows them be digested at the same time as your food , giving them longer in the stomach and intestines , which can increase the amount you absorb ( rather than creating very expensive wee!) .
I find massaging in a magnesium and zinc lotion with lavender to my lower legs and arms before also helps relieve the aches and tingling.
Out of interest , which Collagen supplement do you take , bovine or marine ?
Does it include other supplements in it you should be aware of before calculating which dose of the other supplements you use ?
Were you recommended to take Collagen for medical reasons , or is it a choice you have made prior to having PMR as a skin / hair supplement?
For the collagen I take hydrolyzed bovine and I forgot to say I take Vitamin D with oatmeal because it is a fat soluble vitamin and calcium I take mid morning with yougurt . As for turmeric I take at night along with my magnesium to control pain in sleeping I have osteoarthritis of the left hip helps me sleep. My collagen I take in AM because it says you must say with it, so that is basically supplements that I take I am going to have to investigate Vitamin k2 spray never heard of it.
I was told by my physio that we get more magnesium by absorbing it through the skin e.g. Spray or Epsom salt baths (mmm!)
I use a magnesium oil spray at night on my arms and legs. I'm sure it helps with a more restful sleep.😴😴😴
My physio also suggested that we get the most benefit from a Magnesium spray , or the antiinflammatory gels and lotions , by putting them on just after a shower and covering with a heat pad , or, using a heat pad on the area we want to put it on before applying.
He said it opens up the pores of the skin which allows the cream to penetrate to the deep muscle tissue.
If it goes on cold skin with closed pores it doesn't get beyond the surface layers.
I'm doing it and it does seem to have improved how quickly things work and how long it lasts.
I take calcium, vitamin D3, K2, and biotin (as well as eating nutrient dense foods in my daily diet and low carb, sugar, and salt).
I did take turmeric/curcumin and magnesium the first 4 months after diagnosis, however shortly thereafter I stopped those two supplements and noted no difference.
I will say taking biotin for 7 months now I’ve noted an improvement in my hair (not shedding as much and growing), and my fingernails.
As others have mentioned, check with your pharmacist.
Yes I am still checking out a lot of nutrients which is more suitable for me.
Hello, has anyone tried Boswellia as a supplement? Some info suggests it is a good anti inflammatory, but elsewhere I read it should not be taken if you have something like PMR?
albertarheumatology.com/nat...
They suggest it is not ideal to be used when you are on immunosuppressants - as used for RA and PMR.
Yes , I checked this on a couple of sites when I thought about trying them myself and they noted interactions in Boswelia and Ashwaghanda as things not recommended with Steroid and other Immuno suppressant medication because they could reduce the efficacy of the drug or cause interactions and poor absorption.
collagen seems to help with increasing muscle mass if you continue with resistance exercise.
