It was a rookie mistake, but one I foolishly made... again. I deceived myself into believing that "less is better," but alas it was not! The concept, is valid, in many situations, but not necessarily when it comes to Prednisolone and PMR/GCA.
After my early summer "flare," I asked for advice... did I listen?
Awe... come on! No fair! You have to say it... it's your thing! (Or is it DL's thing?) I forget, actually) ...but all is not right with the world unless someone says it!!!
At least you are not on 60 or 80 mg, says Pollyanna! I'm more of an Eeyore, though, could be company in your misery.
You know what you did wrong...you know how to make it right. What's done is done...and it is what is is...the burning question is...what will u do different going forward?!
You are NO 'fool' M - FAR from it !!! - only 'human' like us all - and optimistic in your efforts. Let's face it - it is almost impossible sometimes to figure out exactly where our body is at until we try something ... and this might even have 'worked'. So no beating yourself up - the main thing is you feel better soon and we all continue looking for that pathway out of 'here' and find it before too long !
You are too funny; you should be the first comedian for a PMR show. I bet you could do it! Without mistakes, how could we be human? Just do your best, and laugh your way down, down, down. After all, laughter is the best medicine.
There is a great deal of pressure in society to 'get off drugs' of whatever type legal or illegal. There are also too many social stereotypes linking daily medication with old age, doddery-ness, hypercondria etc. It's tough to break through these when you get a chronic illness that requires drugs simply to function normally. Family and loved ones tend to have no idea. They think you will get better after a fortnight of treatment. I too have pushed myself to 'get better'. I failed.
The funny thing is in the West we are expected to fight against any disease we get and yet for PMR fighting is the very thing we have to stop our bodies doing. Be strong, and let's get the message of what and how PMR and other auto-immune diseases manifest themselves out there so other people can understand that long-term, slow treatment is best for us. Also, let's start to call out some of the useless stereotypes with regard to long term treatment regimes.
