I absolutely agree with you Purplecrow. I had mine last week and would never avoid it. I was pretty healthy through most of my life, but remember being completely incapacitated by several flu episodes and feeling very debilitated for some time afterwards. I definitely wouldn't want to experience that on top of GCA and PMR.
I was due to get my flu shot last Sat. but the previous Monday went down with sore throat and cough which became Bronchitis. So didn't go for flu jab. Saw Dr yesterday, I have chest infection and am on 5 days of antibiotics. Will book a flu jab when I feel better, didn't like to risk it while not well.
Don't forget though - my husband did one year, got flu, bronchitis and then pneumonia which took 6 months to clear! He does have dodgy lungs but even so!!!
Hi Jerri! Yes, had mine last week too, the one without the adjuvant. I had no reaction at all, nothing even a pink mark—— I guess my immune system is zero!
My GP wanted me to have the over 65 jab with the adjuvant but I refused and had it done at our local pharmacy , also on the NHS.
I would also refuse the adjuvent dose; accepted it once and got the flu. I could have contracted it before the shot, but doubt it. I think it's always better in the pharmacy where they are pre-chilled correctly, without some assistant measuring it out while texting her boyfriend.
You cannot have got the flu from the flu vaccine given to adults, even containing the adjuvant - it is inactivated, i.e. dead. The adjuvant has no role in the flu part - only its action on the immune system.
