Saw the rheumy last week and although I didn’t get the results yet for the DXA scan on 2nd August, I am to stick with the Prednisolone and a slow taper. Hurrah! The Leuflomide and mycophenolate (apologies for spelling) questions arose but they are not recommended for me- hurrah again! I did tell the rheumy that I wanted the DXA results first before going on any Alendronic Acid and I would want to explore other options for bone strengthening too instead of the AA.
Best wishes to all 🌸🌸

The rheumy’s screen didn’t show any result and I keep checking the online Surgery thingy but nothing yet. I will give them a ring in the morning though, thanks 🌸
Well done you , for sticking to your guns , reminding them that your treatment choices are to be made as part of an equal partnership between Patient and Doctors , not a Dictatorship ship early on makes getting better a lot easier and less stressful in the long run.
It seems to me that the first port of call for osteoporosis is Alendronic Acid, it is very cheap and that should give us all some indication as to why it is the first ' port of call.'
There are alternatives, more costly I admit but less destructive!!!!
I have just had the first of 2 bi-yearly, sub cutaneous doses of Prolia with no I'll effects and very good supervision. Blood levels for Calcium to be checked this week.
Be brave and ask for the best treatment available, not the cheapest.💖
It is currently arguably debatable as to whether Prolia is the best option as it has been found that stopping it results in rebound extreme and rapid loss of bone density so either it must be used indefinitely or, if stopped, must be replaced by oral bisphosphonates for a period of time anyway. Yes, it works very well to increase bone density - but looking at the long term is another story.
