I developed PMR in 1998 - went onto Prednisone after diagnosis kept strictly to the doses for years but I still have PMR badly at the age of 81 - the pain and misery is dreadful - The Prednisone stopped working some years ago.

Hello Bookfair

Welcome to Our Forum 🌷

Do you still take Pred or see a Rheumatologist? Have they considered a different diagnosis over the years?

I’m so, so sorry to hear the pain is still so awful for you.

Let us know what treatments and/or Medications you are on & see if there is anything we can suggest to ease it for you in anyway at all.

Kindest Regards

MrsN 🌷

Hi book fair, welcome....that sounds awful. As mrsN says share a bit more if your PMR history and treatment so we can try and help. Did pred work? At what dose? When did it stop working? Is Dr investigating any other conditions. Sorry about the questions and feel free to ignore them. I find it easier if I know what sort of things to share. Hoping for a less pain time for you.🌻

I agree with Mrs Nails and Poopadoop. Let’s get to the bottom of this. Your history with this condition would be a big help. Suffering for so long is not typical. We can try to help.

Do you think it still IS PMR bookfair?

I am 80 and have been on pred for 7 years but a lot of my pain and discomfort is down to other 'old age' illnesses.

Sorry you are in so much pain and are so miserable. It's difficult to keep smiling sometimes, but it does help. I even smile at myself in the mirror often - it's daft, but it cheers me up.😂😂😂

When you say the Pred stopped working some years ago..........did you mean you are no longer on pred or on a low dose for life? Have you been referred to a Rheumatologist?

We do know someone on this forum who has had it for 15 years and counting.

The pred isn't working - or you aren't on enough pred? Pred only works if you take enough and that can vary over time quite a bit. In 10 years of pred (15 of PMR) I have been down to 5mg, up to 7mg, then back to 15mg and am currently at 10mg which is probably the dose I've been on most. But I won't compromise - I take what I need,
