Eye problems is it PMR?

Hi, I recently read a post from koalajane to do with dry eyes and PMR. I have woken up many times with red eyes, my vision is blurred and I sometimes have a bit of watery pus. I'd be interested to know if PMR or steroids may be causing this. After around 10 minutes my eyes begin to clear. Thank you

Red Eye , Dry Eye and other eye issues can begin from use of steroids and PMR because of the inflammation generally reducing general body fitness and nutrients , and the side effects of Pred making your skin and any tissue containing collagen more delicate.

This can also make us more prone to eye infections like conjunctivitis and Episcleritis.

If you already have preexisting diagnosed conditions that caused Dry Eye or are also on other drugs with a known dry eye side effect even more care needs to be taken with your eyes from the start of steroid use as you are even more likely to suffer eye reactions.

These eye irritations or infections are often the cause of blurred vision and greater headaches , and as we are less agile because of our joint issues poor sight can increase our clumsiness or Falls.

Using some of the natural eye health tips I wrote on Koala Jane post each day for all of us help prevent these issues and reduce the time we suffer from bouts of eye symptoms.

Hydration inside and out with the right drops , and drinking fluids is the most important part of eye care.

If you are getting oozy residue as well as red eye irritation in the mornings , it is good to start using the drops and tips on the other post now.

When you have " gunk" it's best not to just force your eyes open as this increases the possibility of you damaging the fine surface of the eye , so having a water or eye drop spray by the bed to hand and spraying it on the closed lids before you open your eyes properly , wait for it to sink down and slowly move your eyes behind closed lids until they feel comfortable then open them stops you tugging the eye surface past the stickiness.

If the " gunk" still keeps happening after a few days and shows no improvement it could be the sign of an infection on its way so it is worth getting to the GP or optician to get it seen and diagnosed quickly.

It can save weeks of symptoms if you don't delay.

Blearyeyed gives good advice but I would add don’t leave it too long - the doctor/optician/pharmacist can quickly diagnose infection. Not saying this is you but I had red whites of eyes and it turned out to be acne rosacea.

That sounds like dry eyes - and it can be due to PMR, to pred or even to another a/i problem, sicca syndrome which has no antibodies but accompanies things, or Sjogren's which is a disorder in its own right.

It isn't usually pus but the gunge being cleared out of your eyes overnight but there isn't as much tear fluid so it is more obvious. Watery eyes are typical of dry eye - your eyes are trying to make up for the lack of high quality thick tears by making lots of 2nd class stuff.
