Update on Melatonin for sleep

A few weeks ago, I posted regarding Melatonin as a sleep aid, promising to return with an update after a few...

Well, here are the findings...non scientific...but mine🤓

After using Melatonin as suggested on the bottle, I found myself sleeping beautifully until 9:30 or 10:00 am! Really sleeping!!! But Yikes! I have never been a late sleeper....and did not appreciate losing most of my morning to my pillow!

I also found myself increasingly fuzzy headed and foggy well into the afternoon. Again, not a desirable experience.

Long story short, I discovered my 5 mg melatonin tab (strawberry flavored, yum) .... was cumulative, and a serious overdose for me...I only needed 1 mg to slip into easy sleep.

So, my new bottle of Melatonin sits at the back of my cabinet, unused. I dont think it is a good resolution to my sleep-less nights.

So, back to my cup of warm vanilla milk and a biscuit.

Cheerio...Jerri

PMR diagnosed 2013, currently 6 mg prednisone

Thanks for the experiment! All that sleep is tempting. I am cotton wool headed enough though.

Thanks for the update , some points well worth noting for us all.

Sometimes this can happen with drugs or supplements and some do not get processed as well as before and build up in the system , or the combination of them with our other medications can cause extra side effects that might not happen for general users of those products.

Maybe when the culmination effect of too high a dose works out of your system you could try a pill cutter and a quarter dose , or just stick to the warm milk and vanilla , you probably enjoy that more too.

~Hi Purplecrow - yes the secret is to slowly build up. I have my 5mg Melatonin prescribed & made up by pharmaceutical company who don't add fillers.

My dreams are somewhat vivid & bit extreme but can cope with these OK. I would not be without Melatonin & stay at 5mg now.

Found my hot milky cocoa at night was helping to add to my girth + needing to use bathroom in early hours.

Good luck with further progress ~

I thought melatonin could increase blood pressure?

It gave me terrific hot flashes. I like one Benadryl every other night.

I also found that only 1mg is needed...helps at times..5mg is a lot in the case of melatonin more isn’t better at least for me.
