So, to all of those people, over the years, to whom I have said "Your curly hair is gorgeous, I wish I had curly hair" I APOLOGISE !!

No need to apologise! I’ve always had curly hair - it does have it good points as well! Unless you were a teenage girl in the 1960s and wanted long straight hair ala Jean Shrimpton!

Mine was a little bit wavey then.I used to iron it!

'specially if you caught your ears with the iron!

Yes DL it was a curse in the long poker straight style of the 60's... K used to iron my friend's hair ( brown paper between iron and hair... She did mine... It was great until high humidity or (horrors) rain!!! The dream ended there.. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I can really symoathize, but mine began in the 50's !

Well mine started in the late 40s, but it didn’t annoy me until the 60s

😉- see this picture - healthunlocked.com/pmrgcauk...

I think I know what you mean Dontwanbabesick! Although it’s less of the glamorous curly hair and more like frizz!

Ditto! Frizz and flyaway!

Mine looks like it's trying to get off my head. (Come to think of it, some has)

Is that your hair off your head in the pic?

No but I love the sculpture and the sentiment 'I am strong, but I am tired'

My daughter has curly hair and changed to the curly girl method of washing it. Don’t use shampoo. Just a NON silicone conditioner. Her hair is absolutely fabulous now and in great condition, no frizz. Google it. Hope this he,ps.

Thanks for that, I'll give it a try

I lost my curly hair with PMR and the version I got back with pred wasn't quite the same! But as a life-long curly top - it has its downsides! Any hairdresser can cut your straight hair to blow-dry. It takes a good one to cut the curly variety so you don't get up in the morning with it doing its own thing!

DorsetLady profile image
DorsetLadyPMRGCAuk volunteer in reply toPMRpro

Oh it still does it’s own thing - but sometimes I don’t mind that.

I’ve let mine grow again, so it can be tamed when I feel like it too!

Mine is no longer curly all over!

DorsetLady profile image
DorsetLadyPMRGCAuk volunteer in reply toPMRpro

I find when mine is short is it curly, but as I let it grow then the weight makes it flatter at the roots but still curly/wavy from about half way down length to the ends.

PMRpro profile image

It is the under hair at the nape of my neck that is wavy, top hair is smooth whatever length,

Yes, All my life had barbers/hairdressers complaining about all the "cowlicks", also the thickness. When I became 14 and insisted I have my long curls cut, my mother cried,

Mine has become wavy, and have been grey since early forties so has a mind of it's own........but if you have straight hair you have choices I think....just don't have patience with straightners!.....

My hair like nails grows so quick....pre d of course!

After a year on Pred, my hair went curly, that is any that remained after a lot fell out. I have let it grow a bit longer than before and my hairdresser says now after another year, it is in much better condition than it was. Still coming out every time I brush. Also have gone very white, but I am 75!

in reply toMaryis80

Told my hairdresser that I thought mine looked like white cotton candy. 😕

Very fine rubbish hair all my life. When little I tied my brothers’ ties round my head just so that I could flick them back! Can’t blame all my daftnesses on PMR alas....🤔

I now have curly hair and think it is the only good thing to come out of this whole experience! It is still falling out a lot though- not so good.

The only two advantages I could see in PMR were a) curly hair and b) moon face. All my life I've had straight hair and a long thin face. So I waited with great anticipation for the arrival of my wonderful curly hair and round face. Neither happened. Hmm .......

My hair fell out when I was on high dose pred. It was always fine, dead straight, greasy and shiny.

I had it cut short about 18months ago and its now course and goes curly when my short cut grows out. Also stopped dying it 2 years ago so I now have salt and pepper hair. Its like totally different hair. I no longer need to wash it so often and "styling" is so much easier. No fussy blow drying just rough dry then spike it with some hair gum then voila done! :D Just as well as my shoulders don't allow me to hold a dryer for long!

Mine has reverted back to it's curly state😮 plus dreaded frizz.. What's left of it anyway😏

My shedding has stopped, post-pred. I’m waiting for the curls.

I was born bald as a ping pong ball but my hair soon came in curly and RED. I hated it while growing up in the 60’s where long straight hair was in vogue. I ironed mine and then curled it to get Farrah Fawcett feathered wings. Then I got over myself and loved my long wavy red hair. People still ask how I got my red hair. Someone told me to tell them I nightly dip my hair in the blood of my enemies. LOL If I cut it short it’s as curly as a poodle. If prednisone has made my hair any curlier I wouldn’t know it. We’re all beautiful ❤️

I've got it. Love it I hardly have to brush it as it stays in place

Dontwannabesick profile image

Yeah it does stay in place. Trouble is it chooses the place!

ANOTHER Pred side effect???!
