Curly hair?

Right now, my memory is not my strong suit~~~but I think I have been on Actemra injections weekly for about three months for GCA, along with Medrol. My hair has gotten a bit thinner, not too bad, but quite curly, ringlets. I was just curious if anyone else had experienced this? Finally, yesterday I just went and had it cut short. If this is the only side effect, I am grateful~! So far...so good. Still on 8 mg but no headache.

I was thrilled to bits when I got curly hair from pred, even as a child I had wanted curly hair. I am currently on 4mg and it looks like I am losing the curl sadly.

Me too, after my second hair loss session with Pred it grew back lovely and curly in a polite way that I could actually style. First time in my life. It lasted the best part of a year but now I’ve gone back to my normal straight but with a kink that goes in different directions on each side.

Yes, once 5 months after initial diagnosis (reaction to systemic illness I think) and then when my adrenal function failed when I was on low dose and my body was deeply upset for months.

That all sounds good. I rather like my waves and curls. It’s like a perm without drying or frizziness. My hairdresser has advised me with layer cuts and natural products. It makes a nice change. This has been a Pred only phenomenon.🌷

Thanks for your replies! Apparently I should be giving all the credit or the blame to prednisone.💇‍♀️

Mine did change with PMR alone - couldn't say it was curly but there was a difference even before pred.

I was blaming the Actemra...I guess I was too hasty. 😉💐

I often say that pred gets the blame for a lot of things of which it may be innocent! For me, PMR alone led to weight gain, craving carbs, muscle weakness due to loss of fitness, hair that went mad and sore eyes, mood swings, depression and fatigue! Most improved once I went onto pred except the weight moved around rather than went on - I stopped craving the carbs the first day so ate better. I was fine with prednisolone and prednisone but methyl prednisolone was awful - they don't necessarily have the same effects.

My hair has always been dead straight but over the last year I have noticed the wavy look. Most of the time I just go with the natural wavy look unless I go to hairdressers for a cut( my hair is in a bob ) I did this two days ago and at the moment my hair is straight but I think I’ll go back to wavy ( that’s if it’s still there that is😜)

You are funny~! I'd say in other words, we take the hair that we get and learn to live with it, right? Even if that means the hair falls out~! 🤣🥰

Mine went curly. Post-GCA, back to straight. PMR saw a slight kink come back. Much easier to manage.

What gorgeous hair~! So~I better enjoy the curl. I don't have PMR, as of the moment. Truly, your hair is beautiful and looks so thick~!! ( I confess I enjoyed the cat and the foodie shots!)💗💐

My hairdresser pointed out the curly hair yesterday! The underlayer is curling! I am on prednisolone only though. I was curly as a small child so long time ago!

I was blaming Actemra but I am on Prednisolone also. One of the other members of the forum said that hers was curly and eventually became straight again....so I'm going to enjoy it~! Mine was wavy...or feathered if it was short...but this is something else. I hope it hangs around for summer.😎😎

I'm on Pred, MTX, Arava and Actemra. My hair has gotten curly since I started the Actemra in December. I had pin straight hair before. The kind that won't even curl around the curling iron. I now have a pixie cut with body! After several bouts of hair loss, this is a welcome change.

I have been on Actemra Sub Q every two weeks since August. I've recently notice a change in my hair. It's curly and I am thrilled. I've had straight fine hair all my life. I am getting compliments right and left! Now if only all the stiffness and pain would go away.

I absolutely loved it as well. I could cut it short earlier and it was so fun 2 in it's not as curly now but it definitely has the natural wave....enjoy
