My sweet 7 year old grandson has been hospitalized with complications ..bowel obstruction.. from ira vasculitis which I have read now is in the same family as PMR. Both his grandmother in Sweden and I have PMR. Is this a genetic disease. Please say some prayers or send some healing energy to him. Kasper. as he is a very sick boy. Thank you.

So sorry to hear about Kasper , lots of energy to you and your family so that you can all survive with helping him to cope while in hospital , which for children can be a very scary time.

Better get him a big bundle of puzzle , colouring books and felt pens which always helped me over the boredom and anxiety as a child ( still do actually!).

PMR , various immune illness and chronic inflammatory diseases are often familial / genetic .

As in you may not get it if it is in your family but it is more likely that you could or at least get some other derivative of that family or group of diseases affecting particular parts of the body or systems that work in it.

Take care to you all x

Yogabonnie, how upsetting for all the family and of course your good self 😢

It really is heartbreaking when little chaps are diagnosed with what is usually an adult problem.

I found this clip for you and I thought it might give you a greater insight into exactly what vasculitis is in children

I wish your dear grandson a speedy recovery..

YuliK.

Oh Yogabonnie I'm so sorry to read this. It is horrible to see a little one in pain, worse than being in pain yourself. Sending positive thoughts your way and hoping he will recover soon. Big hugs 🤗

Sorry to hear this - all good wishes winging their virtual way to your family wherever they are. Is he in Sweden?

Sorry I'm so late posting - almost no notifications for 24 hours for some reason.

THANK YOU! All the healing energy and prayers have done the trick. (along with huge dose 25mg prednisone. He is only 50 pounds having lost 10 in first 4 days...but He has turned the corner! HOW quickly these little bodies heal!! The bowel obstruction (actually an intussusception..) was fixed with non surgical procedure..with surgeon standing by. His kidneys are effected by he vasculitis but at a watching stage and not critical stage and can resolve self hopefully. All other organs are okay. Thank you Thank you. and YES I am in the USA and he isn Sweden. I cancelled Alaska trip in case I had to go..but now it seems having his other grandparents there is sufficient (and wonderful)

It is the hard side of paediatrics - at death's door one minute and bouncing around soon after! The emotional roller coaster is hard on the staff too.

Long may the improvement continue!
