Anyone had anterior hip replacement and got hematoma as a result? 14 days now, entire leg including foot extremely swollen and painful. Ended up in ER, did ultrasound and x-rays, told not blood clot. Would think swelling should start going down in addition to horrible pain. Have strong pain tolerance, so surprised how much pain I have plus went back on the Oxycotton. Doctor said part of the problem is been on steroids for 4 1/2 years so maybe I am more immune? 36 hours after surgery felt wonderful. All pain meds for over 72 hours. Then it started apparently the hematoma.

Hip surgery
Hi,
What a bummer!
Can’t comment on doctor’s view re. steroids, but many on here have had joint replacements whilst still on them without your problem.
(Fortunately I was off them when mine was done.)
Plenty of ice treatment for your swelling - trouble is you can’t raise your leg after a hip op so resting it is not so easy.
Do hope swelling and pain go quickly.
I have had a hip and a knee done so far- both on steroids and no problems like excessive bleeding or infections etc. I think it is just bad luck for you. Hopefully the haematoma will go down and all will be well. The surgeons believe that being on steroids makes us more risky candidates, but it is only risk, not certainty, and better to have these surgeries than carry on in pain.
Sorry or hear that. I’ve seen haematomas happen in others having had hips done, not on steroids too.
I had steroid problems after a hip op but not a hematoma
Wait till after the weekend and then ring the Ortho would did your op Secretary direct and tell her you would like to speak to him/her because of the problem. That is what I would do - just in case....................
