I had no idea the biopsy scar would be so long. I got the dressing off with some difficulty as it was all stuck to my hair. It was only by soaking it that I prevented cutting it out. The scar starts at the temple and goes down as far as mid ear. About 4 inches long. I saw the rheumatologist yesterday who said the results weren’t in but it may not even be helpful because of the steroids. He did confirm the he thought I do have GCA and has left the dose at 30mg. I see my usual rheumatologist next week so will find out what her plan is. Am I right in the thinking that the new biological drugs are licensed for GCA?
Liz.

I’m doing well with recovery from the fracture. Managing to walk with aids. Have had great support from Social Services Rehabilitation Team, and of course family friends and neighbours. The GCA scares me. I’m so frightened of losing my sight. Generally I’m tired, have lost weight, and have very little appetite. I will talk to my Rheumatologist about ACTEMRA and see what she says. Hope you are feeling better SD.
GCA is frightening but you are in a relatively safe position, under the care of doctors taking high dose Pred. , knowing enough to enquire about Actemra. In fact knowing a great deal about our conditions. I am so glad that you are well supported! You’ve had a rotten time. My niggles are too small to complain about. You are at the sharp end right now. Sending you a hug!
In the UK tocilizumab is only for difficult cases I think and only for a year, which is why it is not used first line. Different matter in the US though.
Sorry to hear that Polymy I am sure it will fade though. It seems odd that they do something like that that "may not be helpful" Let's hope your results actually tell you something. Anything with aloe in it - or the gel from a plant should help heal quicker for you.
