Pleasing blood results.

I am over the moon with my latest CRP reading (CPR in UK?)

10.9 down from 15 something last month.

Back in Feb when I had my last rheumy appt, she told me we couldn't expect a low reading due to my obesity. I have looked back at a CRP reading I had pre PMR in April 2014, it was 5.3! I will make sure to tell her when I see her again in a few months.

I did quite a bit (for me) of gardening a couple of days ago, in 20 minute slots with an hour in between to recover my back. I did this on 2 consecutive days. On the final day I did a 1/2mg drop to 7.5mg. Hmm.....I don't think I'll be doing that for a while. I am feeling much better now...but will wait another couple of days before attempting the next bit.

I've been wearing my Fitbit, as I'd noticed my activity levels were higher. On one of the gardening days I did 7665 steps! Nearly 5km. I shall be showing this to my Dr next time I see him as I am pretty sure he thinks I sit on my derriere all day. Even on my 'dragging myself around days' I can do 5000 steps just around the house, back and forth to the chickens and often (as today) still in my PJ's.

We have 70kph gusts due this afternoon.....you'd never know it looking at the still trees!

Bonne bank holiday weekend you UK peeps. We have ours on 8th May (VE day).

😂😂😂

Its so good when things start going okay, well done for doing your steps and garden. I wont race you just yet 🏃

Being in the garden will have helped. I would be interested to know what my crp pre pmr was too. Not sure if it would be in my results though. You tell them...mind you they'll probably say you should be doing 10000. You know they never think we do enough. 😂😂😂

That's the first time I have heard of CRP being related to obesity. Can anyone explain how that works?

Obesity is a form of inflammation it is said.

Thank you. That study only seemed to look at those with metabolic syndrome. Has it been repeated with generally obese people ? It was also quite old. I am surprised as doctors have never mentioned it to me as a weight issue. It’s a bit like dosing the Pred. according to weight- never done that with me or explained it as the reason I am still on a relaltively high dose.

I thought it said in obese people w/o msyndrome at one point in the paper?

in reply tosuzy1959

"Similarly, CRP levels did not differ among obese subjects with and without the metabolic syndrome (adjusted geometric mean CRP 3.22 vs 3.49 mg/l, P=0.99)."

My problem is i have to read it on a smartphone and the text is tiny and dense! I could be interpreted it wrongly as i can only read a quarter line at a time 😂😂😂

I've been reading a lot on food nutrition and diets for health this last year. A particularly good book is Dr Jason Fung's 'The Obesity code'. He's a kidney specialist and leader in the crusade against sugar and sugary carbs. The latest theory is that obesity is due to metabolic syndrome, hormones getting all out of kilter, mainly due to the effect of blood sugar spikes and too much insulin pumped out by the body in response to eating too much sugar and carbs. Another factor in obesity is cortisol levels going awry due to stress or lack of sleep. I know Pred really messes up hormones, cortisol in particular, so maybe that's why I put on so much weight when I was on it. I still have no idea if it's chicken and egg - does hormones going wonky lead to inflammation and AI diseases or the other way round?

I saw a Locum at my last Appointment & in her letter she stated my CRP was probably raised because of my BMI ~ it had been this high before when l weighed the same plus it had also been lower!.......

Gusts and heavy rain have arrived.

I am going to start a new thread (after lunch)....I have a hypothesis re my PMR.

No - CRP: C-reactive protein. All over the world.

CPR is cardiopulmonary resusitation (external heart massage)
