Morning all

I’m asking for advice I have very thin skin and on steroids blood thinners and morphine , have been in hospital numerous times with bleeding and hemotomas and after a year or so things are healing up

What I’m worried about is I have two 8months old great grandchildren who I love dearly ,for the first time yesterday he sat on my lap and I took him for a little ride around the bungalow but I noticed his little legs were going up and down on my legs and I was so scared of him bruising me or ripping the skin

I am only on 8 mg of steroids but if a big if I could lower the dose would that help to thicken skin back up

Or has anyone got any ideas as what I can do or is there anyone in the same position

Thanks

Hello Rusty

Congratulations on your Great Grandchildren!

It’s very hard to ‘thicken’ up the skin damaged by Steroids. Do you use a good moisturiser such as Double Base?

I think for now you’ll need a little blanket over your knees & legs to protect them & maybe wear trousers plus make sure the grandchildren don’t wear shoes or have heavy toys while sitting on your knee.

It’s too big a loss to not enjoy them as they are not little very long.

Kind Regards

MrsN

Very cute! Agree a blanket or sheep skin protector over your lower legs and no shoes or heavy toys for little ones. It would be a shame to miss this time.

Yes, I agree with the others. Protect yourself. You can't make your skin thicker. I've been on a low dose of pred for several years and it was only a few months ago that some sort of un-noticed impact peeled a layer of skin off part of my forearm (which was protected by a coat sleeve at the time. It has healed, still have a slight scar which is fading, but I was alarmed it happened at all. I've used an excellent quality skin cream for years, and have a good diet and other than PMR and the aches of old age am in good health. Skin still fragile.

This stage will pass, thankfully. They grow up all too quickly!

I think there will be lots of people with the same problem.

The others have made some good suggestions - protective measures! No shoes, a sheepskin is a brilliant idea. And they are never too young for you to say no or move them round so they don't catch your shins.
