Warning about trolling

Please do NOT respond to posts from our new "friend" Judy. Just report them if you want to do anything.

I have reported the selection of comments but obviously they are getting bolder. It's the weekend - as usual for such antics and there is no-one who can deal with it.

Rather dreary if you ask me.

It's so sad that this person picks a place like this to do what they are doing.

We are here for support and advice, not this sort of stuff.

Ok, coincidentally I’ve just had one which is laughably suggestive. But what is the goal?? I don’t get it. This is me by the way, not a troll. I just don’t understand why people go on a health forum. To upset?

Has probably noted this is predominantly elderly ladies group. Forgets there isn't a lot we haven't seen - and laughing at a flasher works...

The “suggestive” message wasn’t from me. I promise. Lol

Best response is no response- if they get no reaction then they give up.

A fire with no oxygen soon goes out!

in reply toDorsetLady

Yes agree, I saw the post earlier and decided that no response is the best way to deal with idiots like that.

I am delighted to quote the email I have just received:

"Dear Eileen,

Thanks so much for looking after your community and reporting this member.

We have banned him on the grounds he was only trolling members of the community.

Have a lovely weekend,

Pepa Gonzalez"

Blearyeyed profile image
Blearyeyed in reply toPMRpro

Who is Pepa Gonzalez ?

Is that someone from HU or the charity?

Glad to see they are on the ball in removing such sickening behaviour from forum life.

Nobody needs that negativity when they are just trying to get peace of mind.

Thanks for the speedy warning xx

Staff at the HU Help Centre. I wasn't sure they are staffed over the weekend - but it was worth a try and it worked.

Thank goodness , although as I was late to the " party " and thankfully missed what was going on , when I read your email I began to wonder if you were doing your job really well and had brought in South American hitman!!😂😂😂😂

No offence meant , it's just such a great name!

Now we can all carry on with a hopefully good PMR weekend xxx

Ignoring as usual. Fighting the natural concern I feel for poor souls who feel the need to troll.

Dear PMPpro,

I have written both on these, and related, pages about 'Scams' and so on (you know the sort- you are 'Owed Money', Great Grandma died, Anonymous Benefactor, The Last in the Line of Millionaires.) The scariest one, that I ever received.....MY Death had been 'Reported', in America- if I gave these 'People' ALL my Details, the "Absolute Loves", would sort it out for me....How Kind!!

So we have now Dropped, even Lower....Fake Members, this is Doubly Bad, since New Members (genuine ones) join all the time. Yes 'Naturally' They use a weekend or, Better Still, a Bank Holiday (beware there are Three coming up soon- Easter, May Day and Spring Bank all starting in a few weeks)…..I'm NOT going to say 'Be Careful', instead I'll say WATCH OUT Everyone, and please, remember to keep your Protection 'up to date'.

I'm trying, to think, of Something a 'Little' more Positive to end on.....Oh yes, a Cleaver little joke....Two Atoms are talking one, turns to the other, and says "I've just lost an Electron" "Are you sure?" askes the second, to which the first replies "Yes I'm POSSITIVE!" (Sorry for the Scientific Joke, I used to work in Laboratories- before I was ill. If you don't understand the Joke, then please do PM me. I will explain all, I promise).

Stay Safe everyone

What is the matter with those people?????

YuliK profile image
YuliK in reply topolymy

They are probably very lonely people or youngsters up to mischief. Or trolls who can menace a forum such as this one.

My youngest son is in hi tech security and he is adamant that elderly people such as myself and most of us are at risk

I don't answer phone numbers I don't recognize or emails ..

YuliK. Aged 76

Just be careful.

SnazzyD profile image
SnazzyD in reply toYuliK

Ah, on that one, our phone number was spoofed such that the ‘line’ and number were appropriated. This means that the ba%**@££s can fool the network into telling people they call that it is our number. So some call minder facilities see a domestic number and let it through so they can cold call. Once they’ve got it they make many many calls until they are shut off. The only sign that something was amiss was when people were calling me back after seeing a mystery number on their call log. On the day I was getting a call back every 1-2 minutes and one lady from Wiltshire had had me calling her with silent calls for weeks. She plucked up courage and decided to call it before calling the police. She was in quite a state. Our provider Virgin came round and said it was a relatively new scam and they did not know how to deal with it at that point. Apparently the perpetrators are going through the phone book and had started in London. All they could do was change our number permanently to a number that came before our old one if compared numerically.

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toSnazzyD

I do like living here - this cold calling thing is almost unknown. Almost - but they are always Italian speaking so they don't get far ...

arthur463 profile image
arthur463 in reply toPMRpro

That's interesting PMRpro. Our cold callers (in England) are almost always Indian - phoning from India. Several such calls per week, usually telling me that my computer is "reporting problems to them" - which they will fix if I let them take over my PC. I gather that they then help themselves to ones bank account etc. Presumably they have some scam or other to get free calls. The result is that you put the receiver down as soon as you hear an Indian voice - which is a bit tough for the honest Indians.

in reply toarthur463

Arthur, we invested in a BT Call Guardian Phone, you need to have ‘Caller Display’ on your Line for it to work, it then screens all your calls, anyone genuine will come through. You also add your family & friends etc & they bypass the whole system.

No More Cold Calls!

Jocelyn344 profile image
Jocelyn344 in reply toarthur463

If you are a BT customer you can set a "call protect" scheme, which is free. If you get such a call, you then dial BT, enter a given number, 1572, follow the instructions and that call line is permanently blocked.

Has been very useful since set up, number of cold calls greatly diminshed, which is reassuring, as you say, pensioners like ou Rselves are being targetted, and it is very upsetting.

AndrewT profile image
AndrewT in reply toYuliK

Dear Yulik,

I only have a 'Cheap & Basic' Mobile Phone, However it has one VERY useful 'Function' - 'End Active Call'. Using this means, that the, 'Line' cannot be Held Open- one Scam involves 'them' Holding The Line, so that your Verification Call is 'Them' as well! (If that makes sense???) I don't know if the iPhone Models have this 'Function', or not, I haven't got one- I don't need it.

Just a thought Yulik. Whatever else, please do, take care.

Thanks Andrew, I'll check with my son. I have iPhone 8 and I still don't know half of the functions. 👍

AndrewT profile image
AndrewT in reply toYuliK

Dear Yulik,

If Your Phone, DOES have, 'Protection Features' maybe you could 'Post' the Details here? Perhaps a Guide, as to 'How To' access them too. Sorry for the 'Imposition' Yulik, but if your Son has Knowledge, of these Things.....

My turn, to Thank you.

I know how you feel Patricia. It seems that we have missed a juicy bit of scandal. I love a bit of scandal. None of the others seem to want to tell us exactly what we've missed, and seem to be writing of it in "hushed voices" - so it must have been a really good scandal. How very frustrating!

At one time I was getting hundreds of scam e-mails from a Russian lady who wanted me to admire her enormous breasts. Fortunately I think that is the worst I have had. P.S. I prefer to admire my own.
