My husband says he’s sleeping better lately because my noisy night breathing has stopped. I’ve been of Pred since Dec 31.
Is noisy breathing a side-effect of prednisone?

It could reduce inflammation in your sinuses and therefore secretions too and so reduce noisy breathing
Maybe not per se, but if it made you put on weight around your throat/neck area that may have affected your breathing at night, and made you more ‘noisy".
I tried very hard to not gain weight during my 15mg to 1 taper in 11 months, and was mostly successful, so I doubt that’s it. I assumed it was just age related relaxing of tissues, till I saw loud breathing was a possible side-effect of Pred use.
I wasn’t implying you HAD gained weight, but Pred has a habit of redustributing what’s under the skin and the neck/throat seems to be a favourite area.
I have almost permanent ear nose and throat issues and a sight whistle in my breathing. I have always thought it was Pred side effects. Tests don’t show anything. So it could be another plus for club zero!
“Club Zero”?
I like it, I think.
(What is it?)
Can you join this club if you have any bumps going to zero and staying there?
Everyone is welcome - doesn’t matter how bumpy your ride there may be!
I'm in then please! I had a return after the first taper, but seem to be in permanent remission now thank goodness.
Sorry you don’t get a badge! Just proof that it can be done.
I shall cry... very loudly if I don't get a badge Seriously though I have been lucky as I have been in remission for several months now. Long may it continue. There have been the odd threat of return, but it hasn't come to anything. I just pray that everyone on here can also go into longterm or permanent remission. It is definitely not the easiest of diseases to deal with.
I definitely was snoring (very loudly) when I was on a higher dose of pred. Now on 1mg. and it doesn’t happen most of the time.
I also snore now. Never did prior to starting pred. I think it has something to do with laxity of the tissues of soft palate caused by pred.
I snored big time - but it wasn't the pred, it was the PMR. How do I know? It happened for the 5 years I had PMR without pred. It improved on prednisolone, came back while I was on Medrol because of the weight gain especially around my neck and then went away as I lost 35lbs in weight when on prednisone.
I think it might be.
No idea what the causes are, but have indeed snored loudly ever since having GCA and prednisolone. (Nov 2016.) Wouldn't often know personally, but husband mentions it fr time to time.
Had always had sinus problems, but they became noticeably worse w GCA-pred.
Sinuses really bad in the early days, and have become gradually less distressing as time has gone on. Whether that's inflammation lessening (GCA) or 'laxity of the tissues of the soft palate' becoming less (pred) I don't know.
However, despite lessening symptoms, I am informed that the v loud snoring is continuing unabated.
On 6.5mg now, and managing this level better than first time round. Had terrible persistent nausea first time, but not much this time. So far. Fatigue not quite so bad. So far. Awaiting developments with a certain amount of curiosity, and as much patience as I can muster.
I mentioned in an earlier post that I used to suffer from acute rhinitis and was a heavy snorer. Pred has cleared it up and my wife tells me I no longer snore. When I first stopped snoring she used to prod me to make sure I wasn’t dead. I also had a slight case of psoriasis which has also cleared up. Pred is truly a wonder drug😀
Yes, I agree that pred weight around the neck doesn't help. I am due for a sleep study since I have loud snoring now and wake up tired. It is next on my list of things to attack when I get home. On the plus side, the pred has helped with all my nose stuffiness due to allergies. Don't have to take my allergy meds anymore. Sleeping on my side helps some.
