I have another new symptom today. It involves my pelvic bone and really didn't appear until I did my morning chores. My pelvic bone and girdle have always been a painful issue. At least since July 2018.
Today.. . and this is a 10 on the pain scale, I have a horrible pain on left hip over pelvic bone that causes me to want to cry out when walking putting any weight on left foot. Now, I'm trying to get comfortable in recliner chair and the pain is coming every 20-30 seconds. And moving my leg at all is a huge mistake.
Has anyone ever experience this?

Really you need to get your doctor to refer you for an x-ray if the pain really is that bad. There are several things that could cause that sort of pain - and one is fractures. You need an x-ray to rule out that sort of cause. Especially if it has been around for months and has now got more severe. And frankly - if you can't move without pain, I would call the emergency services and ask for advice.
5 years ago, I slipped and flew off steps because of freezing rain. I caused a hairline fracture in left pelvic bone. They did xrays again (full body) and saw no knew OA. I've of course had pain there since my recovery. Only minimal and only occassionally. Since 7 months ago, when I suspected something was wrong all over, the pain in left pelvic bone was still typical. Today, is a whole new awakening to pain. A new experience. Only 1 1/2 days til I finally see rheumy. If it gets worse and more disabling, I will definitely go to Emergency.
Thank you for your help 🙂

I have to agree with PMRPro, it’s very easy to put everything down to PMR when it’s not always the case.
A expert view is required especially as the pain is a 10
Hi there, I know what you mean I end up in agony after stressful work like housework etc. Where your pelvis joins your spinal column and at the front of your pelvis you have ligaments on either side of your body. It could be that you have strained these ligaments. Pregnant women suffer with this problem when Thant begins pressing down on your pelvis. You see them on crutches. I sprained the joint between my spine and my pelvis and it reoccurs often. As you say it is agony. The only treatment they gave me was heat rest and pain releif until it settles. Treatment may differ today so I would check with your dr. It’s a case of once a joint is damaged it will always be weaker. I hope this helps, thinking of you xx
Thank you, Josieswolf. It does help. I'm sorry that you and others have the same problem but it helps me knowing that I'm not alone. I too, start out my day doing normal morning routines. Shower, bedroom, kitchen and then I have a goal in mind as to what I want to accomplish for the rest of the day. If I'm lu ky enough to finish my morning routine, I discover I have nothing left for other goals I've set. My new goal becomes easing the pain caused by morning routine. 😕
A lot of the success in living well with PMR is to adjust your usual routines to something you can manage better. Having a shower for example - don't waste energy drying yourself, wrap a towel around you and use a towelling dressing gown - wait until you are dry. There are loads of ways to reduce the effort required in everything.
Yes! I had the same type of pain when I was first diagnosed with PMR.. I went to tbe ER where they told me the xray showed mothi g, that I was probably "just low on analgesia" (I know, silly, right?) I started using one crutch then two till I couldn't walk anymore. Turned out I had a double pelvic fracture(sacrum and public ramus). Apparently many peopme with I sufficiency fractures of the peelvis go undiagnosed. I didn't even have osteoporosis back then but my vit D was extremely low so the fra ture were caused by osyeomalavia, they think. I didn't fall or have any type of trauma..
Sorry, I just read your second post on here.. I forgot to say that a few weeks ago, I thought I had broken my pelvis again because of severe pain in my groin again. I went to a different ER and they also took an xray said nothing found and then they gave me an injection of betamethasone which took the pain away. I was fine for a few weeks till yesterday morning when I woke up with the same pain. I didn't go to the ER as they had told me the last time that I needed to get an appointment with the orthopedist but I hadn't done so yet, so I had my OH give me another shot of betamethasone and today I'm pain free again.
Betamethasone is a steroid so I'm kind of confused now as to why it should work so well on my pain..
I also had an xray, which showed nothing. My gp told me that hairline fractures don't show up on xrays. Okay...so, why an xray then? I see my rheumy for first time tomorrow since diagnosis and I have a journal I've been keeping. This incident so far is my last journal entry. Anymore surprises with this disease?
My pain sounds similar, and was diagnosed as sacroiliac joint irritation. Ive had a couple of steroid injections, massage, Chiropractic and acupuncture treatments,
All helped more or less , but as I sit here (4am), the pain has me awake and aggravated.
Only things that really seem truly helpful are topical rubs and heat packs.
I'm sorry you have that too. It was completely debilitating for most of the day and I couldn't walk in house safely without a cane. What king of topical runs did you use?
Now I have a name for what must be what I have.. Sacroilliac joint irritation. The effects of tbe steroid shot worked wonders but I guess the effects wear off in a week and they aren't the greatest idea to get them frequently.
I wonder if that could be a sequella of a pelvic fracture?
I just adked that on a post in a new thread.. I do suspect that the PMR has come back, although I am being evaluated for neuromuscular diseases which all seem to have tbe same symptoms as PMR, at least in the early stages.
Yesterday, my rheumatologist decided to run tests for myosthinia gravis because my xrays were normal but my symptoms are also like pmr/gca. Also a full body bone density scan is being ordered.
