Welcome your observations and advice

After 2 days on 6.5 (from 7 for a month), I have woken with pain in new places.

On 7 I had been virtually pain free.

Today I have pain in outside of upper arms, neck pelvic girdle and generally feel weak and wobbly.

Also under severe emotional stress.

Any advice welcome thanks.

Have taken 10mg and waiting for it to kick in.

I have been taking pred about 5 am so at 5.45 this morning when I woke with new symptoms, the dosehad probably elapsed.

Morning Legsy

If you are under any emotional stress it’s not a good time to reduce. You’ve done the right thing & tomorrow you can go back to 7mg as that was working well for you.

As you know 7mg is about where we are hoping our Adrenal Glands will wake up but they can be very lazy!

I do hope your situation resolves soon but my advice is to stay on 7mg until outside forces are not affecting you.

Kind Regards 🌷

Thanks Mrs N. Was not aware of the 7 threshold.

That’s where a lot of us struggle when we get to around 7mg as that is approximately the physiological dose of cortisol we need everyday, so once we go below that we are hoping the Adrenal Glands will Spring into Action but they tend to be on the lazy side!....

So until things settle for you 7mg is a good place to remain then you can test the waters again when everything else is a bit more normal.

Kind Regards 🌷

Good advice from MrsNails, but can I suggest once you feel okay again and are ready for your next reduction you also start using a slow taper from now on - it does help - this is just one of many -

I think that I would have done the same as you and increased to 10 mgs. That was my magic dose really - after that it was a bit of a struggle - then I got stuck at 7 mgs for about a year with a few attempts to reduce. I am now alternating 5 mgs and 4.5mgs ( 40 months on from the start). Emotional strain plays havoc with these diseases. You might possibly get away with 10 mgs for a week and straight back to 7 mgs. It depends on how you feel. You don’t want this to become a big flare. I hope things ease for you soon. Let us know how you get on.

Don't go mad with the pred - it may take a day or two to work.

The 12.5 did the trick. Help! What should I take tomorrow?

Take 12.5mg for 2 or 3 days and then start to taper again, you will probably manage to go straight to 10mg. Then slow down to not more than 1mg at a time. And maybe use a slow taper.

Hi Pro. I decided to take 10 and another 2.5 if necessary. It's been ok thanks. Been for long walk. It seems essential to me to exercise. Feel much better for it.

Hi Legsy, I agree with Mrs Nails about timing the reduction. My experience when reducing and finding new pains might interest you. I complained to my Rheumatologist and he said that the pred does a good job of masking pains from other places. He was convinced that my issue was not a flare up, but a shoulder injury. His advice was to up the pain relief to max and to see a physiotherapist. Result! And down 2 mg - currently on 7mg. It is worth trying other options, especially if your new pains are not exactly the same on both sides of the body.

Thanks Mum. Take on board your comments. but these were not injury pains as A) they were symmetrical and b) they simply came on me in the early evening. I took 12.5 and 10 each of last 2 days and things are as they were before the 2 days at 6'5. I sincerely appreciate your interest and help mum. Hope all goes well for you.
