Not PMR related

I wanted to tell you I have the most magnificent bruising on my right boob after throwing myself onto the ground last week on route to release the hens.

You'll be glad to note that this is a post without a photo!

My boob and ribs were very quite sore for a few hours and my body was knocked up for 48 hours, otherwise, no harm done.

I wish I could show you my bruises, they are amazing :)

Later on the same day I went to doctors for another issue and he informs me that my PMR has gone :) (Oh, sorry, there is some PMR in this post).

He is wanting me to reduce my dose (very slowly) but to reduce. I have been on 9mg since late Nov. Attempted slow reduction to 8mg in early Jan, but began to feel breakthrough symptoms, so went back to 9mg.

I explained to him that I didn't want to find myself battling to get my symptoms under control and risking having to go beyond 9mg to do that.....but he was not persuaded.

It doesn't make any difference.....rheumy seems far more laissez faire than he is about the management of my illness. I have plenty of 1mg tablets if I want to continue at my pace. However, I am starting another very slow reduction, just to test the waters again, as I too would like to be on fewer mgs of steroids.

Edited to add:

Just rereading your slow reduction post PMRpro

bit.ly/2VlvBNT and note that

"steroid withdrawal pain - which is so similar to PMR pain that you often can't tell which is which and some of us suspect that many flares are NOT the PMR returning but problems with steroid withdrawal. "

So, I will persist and see how things pan out.

I think your dr has made a boob.... Sorry couldn't resist. I'm no pro but how does dr know? Others will be along to guide. Hope you recover soon. X

Sorry about the fall - hope your bruises and aches recover well.

Re your PMR pains if it’s a withdrawal it comes on the same day as a reduction and goes within a few days. I’ve suffered them from my first reduction - 5 years next month. If the pains come on for no apparentt reason that’s usually a flare and just worsens and you should go back to your previous you were pain free on and stay there until all symptoms have subsided. Then a slower reduction perhaps .5mg. Your GP seems a little ahead of himself - how does he know your in remission.when only in January you had symptoms. Don’t be rushed.

So, do tell, how does this PMR wizard know that it has gone?? Especially on the dose you’re still on.

What on earth persuades them that because the blood levels are OK when on a hefty dose of pred that the PMR has gone?

Why were you throwing yourself around to that degree? Bruised boobs hurt - you have my sympathy!

I tripped. Lots of tree debris down there after some high winds. I think I stood on a stick and lifted one end so I could trip. The sheep were quite perturbed. I was very winded.

Lucky nothing more of note as Mark was still in bed, so it would have been at least an hour before I was rescued.

Oooh! Sorry re your bruised boob!

Good luck with your tapering journey but I would be wanting to see another GP who doesn't believe he or she has powers of PMR divination. How can he possibly know your PMR has gone?

Stick with PMRpro, Dorsetllady and your own body's messages (not forgetting rheumy who seems more sensible).

Sorry for the mini-rant but some GP stories on here make my hair stand on end! 🤔🌷

I wouldn't change my doctor. He's lovely and speaks English which is so good when you have medical problems.

It's great to have a doctor who listens and respects your point of view. I often share research with him to explain why I have made certain choices. He was just saying what he thought he knew.....

(Not at all like may UK GP's and even our receptionist is kind and gentle :) )

I think your doctor has a very kind and understanding patient too. 🙂
