I know many here promote low carb diet so it will be somewhat controversial . Since I live in Japan and follow typical Japanese diet I wanted to share with you this article. BTW, I have PMR for 3 + years and with this diet I have not gain any weight at all.

I know this will come as a surprise, Japanese diet is mainly based on carbs, fresh veggies, seafood and some meat, usually chicken and pork.

I think the type of carbs is important and the article says their staple is sweet potato and the Western carbs are mostly pap. Interestingly Japan is in the top 3 in the world for stomach cancer. Swings and roundabouts.

and in spite of that they live longest. My guess is that it is related to stress, which can be pretty high in Japan... another sad stats is that there is high suicide rate mostly among young people in Japan..

People here in South Tyrol aren't so far behind - women are expected to live to 90 in Okinawa, to over 86 in South Tyrol/Trentino. And diet here includes a lot of processed meats and bread...

But Japanese don't develop much PMR and need corticosteroids for management. Nothing against carbs for healthy people who aren't on pred.

There are many components of why people live longer.. One of them is genetics, lifestyle, clean water and air, etc...Did you know that most Asians have longer intestines? Almost as 2x longer then typical Europeans due to almost vegetarian diet for 1000's of years.

Now there would be an interesting comparison - extraction of nutrients in western vegans ...

However - maybe a touch of "fake noos":

An even longer life expectancy than the Okinawa , which has now gone down through eating a more western diet, is the Adventists in California, who eat 100% meat free.

they live few years longer (79) then average American, but still not as long as Okinawa's ( 90 for women and 84 for men) . There are more than 400 centenarians in Okinawa.

you should watch it again... It says that Adventists in California live 10 year longer then Americans, not longer then people from Okinawa...

They do obviously live a healthy life we should look into, at 3:00 it clearly compares them to Okinawa.

Eating with chopsticks probably helps too....slow down the eating/chewing. I might try it.

I used to be good with chopsticks but if I tried to eat everything with them now it would be a starvation diet!!😂😂😂

Where's the chips nick!! That doesn't look enough to keep a budgie going!! ATB

It's quality not quantity, who wants a long life feeling ill all the time!

We have a meeting in Japan in 2 years time - and Hamamatsu Photonics always send reps who have become good friends. Now I wonder ...

This city is famous for musical instruments, like Yamaha, Kawai and Roland. Hamamatsu has lots of companies in hi tech industry too. Photonics is one of them not too far from where I live, but never worked there. In fact I retired before moving to Japan. Where is the meeting?
